I was heading home and decided to call in at the TerryWhite Pharmacy at Albany Creek instead of my normal pharmacy to fill two scripts for my visiting son-in-law. The two scripts cost $16.30 and $15.60 respectively compared with a price of about $7 each at Chemist Warehouse. Of course I only found out about this when it was too late and my order had been filled. Had I known this, I would never have gone there. So lesson learned and I will never go there again. Perhaps TerryWhite staff should advise customers that they might charge more than double the price of Chemist Warehouse for scripts. At least that would constitute some form of fair notice or warning to customers so they might then be able to choose whether they proceed with their purchase or not.

Post Script: Further to the response form the owner, Paul. The point Paul is that people shouldn't have to ask first to understand the difference in prices offered by TerryWhite to other Pharmacies, be they warehouse or otherwise. I, for one, don't even think of these things as I enter a pharmacy. (I might add that my local pharmacy that I go to is NOT a warehouse pharmacy.) However, it would be very useful if the explanation you've offered here in response to a specific complaint was made available to people as they entered your pharmacy, or something akin to that. I don't expect small businesses to be able to compete with the big end of town. I support my small local businesses. But I do so knowing in advance where I stand with pricing and/or stock availability and not when I get a rude shock at the till. The issue I raised is more about informing prospective customers so they have the freedom to make a choice rather than the actual price. Also, when we talk about TerryWhite, it's only last year that the TerryWhite Chemmart (“TWC”) informed the ASX that it had celebrated the opening of its 500th network pharmacy. Even though there are individually owned franchises, please don't tell me that a network of that size doesn't have some buying power in the marketplace. Overall TerryWhite Chemmart is not quite the small business you make out and it should not be quite the David and Goliath battle with the warehouses that you suggest (unless there is something terribly wrong with how it operates). Thank you for the offer of the refund. I'm afraid the explanation you've offered has not taken away the sour taste of my experience. Anyway, I've offered my opinion and won't be commenting on the matter further.
