16 July 2024 a chain of events created some of the most confronting challenges I have ever faced, it started with an ambulance ride to emergency at SCUH, green whistle in hand, the next day into SCUPH unable to walk as I had compressed nerves in my lower back and I had lost all feeling in my left leg below the knee. After a week of injections and pain killers I was released home to wait for surgery.
13/8/24 I had double decompression spinal surgery performed by Dr David Brooks from Sunshine Coast Orthopaedic Group. What an amazing surgeon, I am so lucky that he was able to perform his magic and give me an amazing outcome. Over the next month during my recovery I overdid things, pulled stitches and got an infection in the wound which effectively put me on hold till 13/9
Today (12/10/2024) 8 weeks post surgery, I am almost off all pain medication, I challenged myself, I climbed to the top of Mount Coolum, 45 years on the coast and I have never been there, I felt like Rocky Balboa, I did it for me, when I was getting to the top I kept saying to myself, the higher I climbed the better the view, when I got there I knew that my soul, my body and my heart were good, my journey forward was on track and I am great full.
