My elderly mum was admitted close to 2 weeks ago, very sick with several medical conditions. ED admin were very kind & helpful, but mum & I were disappointed with the ED doctor & nurses, they seemed bored, disinterested and mum was an inconvenience to their time as she arrived approx. midnight. Since she's been on a ward her doctor has been diligent, kind & attentive, the nurses are very kind & caring angels and mum feels blessed to have them caring for her. All ancillary staff are very helpful as well. 4 stars only due to the disappointment of ED medical staff.

I really can't give enough praise for the amazing team at St Andrews. I was in this week for a procedure and from the first contact to the last the team at dau surgery where kind compassionate but still very professional. Every step was explained and the sms service to keep your loved ones updated were out of this world. Every step was sms sent.
Thank you it was a day of positive encouragement even though it was a scary day for me

I recently presented at St Andrews for an emergency appendectomy and I can’t rate the staff high enough. Rachel & Dr Simon from ED, Dr Auld, Wilma & Dr Steve from surgery and Sarah & Sara from the women’s ward were phenomenal. I felt listened to, considered, attended to and cared about for the duration of my stay. The staff were all very compassionate and considerate. I truly thank them all and recommend this hospital (especially over Ipswich public for emergency department).

I had a visit to Emergency on Sunday thanks to an Infection on my leg that rapidly spread . Everyone from the doctor who initially assessed the infection in emergency all the nurses and the surgeon that removed the absyss were amazing. They were professional, kind and caring yet still up for a laugh which helped me a lot . The food was great also . Highly recommend this hospital.
Even though I don’t want to go back in a hurry.
Thank you all ❤️

I attended for day procedure, and although the specialist was absolutely wonderful I can’t say the same for nursing staff. I had no idea when they asked my partner to be there to pick up he was only messaged I would be ready in about 30min. During this time I had rhinitis allergy from the anasthesia. No one checked on me or gave tissues. Thankfully brought my own. Then during the night after getting home the allergy was getting worse and there was no relief from extreme bloating and pain. We called the hospital at first the nurse we spoke to said it’s unusual reaction but after obviously talking to someone else they asked to wait several hours before they would call the specialist. Within 30 min my pain was excruciating not helped my constant sneezing. I presented to emergency with clearly extended abdomen in pain and crying. The emergency dept had approx 8 patients but 1 Dr. The staffing level completely unacceptable. Not enough Dr to give pain killers to patients waiting in emergency. I felt so sorry for the Dr and triage nurse. I left. I’d rather go to Ipswich public to wait there. I would never ever have any procedure at this private hospital. It was my first and last time. No one called to check either after so there is no patient care, the most important thing is to pay. A disgrace of a private hospital. UPDATE: NO ONE CALLS DESPITE THEIR AUTOMATED RESPONSE. SPEAKS VOLUMES.

Let me first start by saying the majority of nurses here are absolute heroes! Now some background… I am a mum with a toddler and a newborn baby. My husband is fifo and so works 1 week on/1 week off. I am by myself as my support network live a 12 hour drive away.

I have been to hospital a number of times this year including having my baby here a couple of months ago.

I pay exorbitant fees for private health. This year, my fund has paid over $20,000 to Saint Andrews Hospital (not including the out of pocket expenses that Saint Andrews also don’t cover). All of that is absolutely fine when the overall service is good. Not talking about emergencies or when doctors are trying to save a life. I mean nurses specifically.

I am currently in hospital and I’m sleep deprived, hungry and missing my baby terribly. I have the wonderful Sandy on shift tonight as well as an absolutely delightful older lady who has just given me the best pep talk.

Then there are a couple of younger nurses who are not great. 1 in particular is extremely rude, cold and has a horrible bedside manner and made me feel like absolute crap. She made me feel like I was annoying. Among many rude/aloof remarks were things such as:

-my cannula was making a really loud periodic beeping noise and when I asked if I was doing anything wrong to set it off she said “no it’s fine… it is what it is… there is nothing wrong with it’. She completely ignored that fact that we are on a women and children’s ward and they are really
noisy when they beep. Also, how am I meant to sleep with that noise? After she left the room, I burst into to tears (also an unpleasant exchange about bottles and cleaning equipment so I can’t pump).

- not acknowledging my pain discussion. I’m sick of being treated like a drug addict in this hospital when I am in pain. I had it with me c-section as well.

-I have been through a labour with my first son and c-section with both and the pain I had with Gallstones and now from keyhole surgery is to me a lot more painful. Considering the amount of money that is paid, I would think that if I’m telling you I have bad pain, you would acknowledge it.

-My delightful older nurse (I’m so sorry I can’t remember your name) and Sandy have been amazing and have given me an ice pack and some more clean bottles (the other rude nurse said there weren’t any, but that’s ok it’s now sorted). My delightful older nurse heard my machine and heard me crying and was just so lovely. Then Sandy came in and turned it off

-I also needed compression socks and Sandy was wonderful in helping me reapply. Said younger rude nurse who got them over my feet and then said ‘ok you do the rest, you’re doing well’ meanwhile, I’m in agony bending over to pull the stockings up.

-A number of other passive-aggressive behaviours have occurred but I can’t list them all.

Then Sandy came in and turned it off.

-thank goodness for Sandy because I was ready to pump and jump 24hrs of breast milk on advice from the general surgeon because of anaesthetic and pain relief. Sandy informed me that is not necessary, she knows her stuff!

-I am now afraid to press the nurse button because I am still feeling pretty intense pain in my keyhole sites and just under my rib cage. It’s 1:36am and I am unable to sleep because of the pain (had pain relief 3 hours ago which worked well for a little while. So now I’m awake and afraid to ask for me relief).

I have let a number of things slide with the hospital in the past. But I am so tired and in pain and just copping a bit of a mental beating and I don’t need a rude and cold nurse minimising how I’m feeling and speaking to me in a harsh and quite frankly rude tone.

It is such a shame that a select few ruin it for the majority

In and out in under 2 hours with a scan and pain meds and steroid and anti inflammatory injection after a fall with extreme swelling. Even made me a cup of tea with a sandwich. As I'd hit my medicare threshold it was less out of pocket than normal. Thank you so much team ❤️
