In January I purchased a multi day hike for October through the BU Adventures website.
In July I emailed the company to confirm the trip, and find out details that would allow me to book flights etc. The trip was confirmed by Maryanne Spiers (the owner of BU Adventures) via email, although key dates of the trip incorrect, and some information (such as times and transfers) . I to confirm the correct dates with her again, and that transfers were included as per the information on the website. She reassured me that the dates were as listed on the website, and that it was definitely going ahead with possible additional activities available to add on.
I booked flights and accommodation based on this confirmation.
In August Maryanne Spiers emailed me to tell me that the trip was to be cancelled due to withdrawals, and that she had “no alternative but to refund or credit you your trip purchase amount (less admin fee - as per our T's and C's)”.
I requested a full refund as per my rights as a consumer (advised by NSW Fair Trading).
Since then communication from Maryanne has been ridiculously poor and trying to get my money back has been a challenge.
Maryanne has provided me with three separate dates as to when I would be refunded. However, as the dates have passed, and there has been no returned money, I have had to chase her up. Her replies are very delayed and vague, often providing a new date (which again is missed).
This case has been reported to NSW Fair Trading.
Based on my experience with this company and owner, I would say that she is extremely unreliable, a poor communicator and currently unfit to run a company, let alone be a mentor or coach for other people. Her behavior, constant excuses and gaslighting been absolutely shameful and embarrassing.
I would not recommend purchasing any trips or experiences from this company.

EDIT: in response to the reply provided by Maryanne below- it has since been a week, I have tried to follow up further and still have had no response, or further communication. The sudden claim of health issues has just added to the unreliability of Maryanne.
