I went to see Dr Mario Alam as I have cancer. A GP is never going to be my primary care or advice giver in my situation. I have been working closely with a specialist for a while and I had a focused treatment plan at the time. I wanted to find an open minded GP that would not give me a hard time for doing alternative treatment, who might be interested enough to oversee my health and wellbeing from the side line. I also had what I felt was an important question about the health ramifications of one particular medicine I was taking regularly.
Dr Mario said he could not take me on as a patient because of my diagnosis/ health issue. He said the same thing to my dad who went to see him because of chest pains. He did not answer my specific question. He was very nice and seems to be a decent person but he just read my palm then referred me to a number of other people including an insanely expensive alternative cancer clinic famous for ripping patients off, a masseuse and he said I definitely needed to see a really young ‘energetic’ healer who wanted to charge me well over $3000 for 9 ‘energetic clearing’ sessions. I felt she did not have the experience or even the right kind of treatment to deal with cancer. I felt like I could have gotten WAY off track and broke doing it all which I don’t feel is smart or safe. I left feeling disappointed but later I saw him speak at a public event and he boasted that he had a low rate of cancer in his patients, sounding like it was something amazing he did in his work with them. Then passionately and very positively talked about what I perceive to be one of the most controversial and risky alternative cures for cancer as being something that seems to work. two locals have died doing it and one case is in court currently. This just struck me, to hear something like that coming from him infront of lots of people and has sat very badly for me since then. I’ve had so many bad experiences with professionals along the way I’ve decided i will speak out because if I had read a review like this I would not have wasted my time and money. people with cancer need help and support in many ways and from the bottom of my heart I just want things to be better for myself and others. What is the point of a dr who doesn’t want to deal with people when they are unwell? I can see drs might not want to touch cancer with a 40 foot pole because of liability. But if that’s the case maybe your not cut out for the job. I read a statistic that said almost 50% of people will get some kind of cancer in their lifetime. I hope it’s not accurate but if it is, are you going to dump all your regular patients if they get a serious diagnosis? What are you doing in this profession? Because I haven’t worked for a year, the money I invest in sessions with professionals is incredibly valuable to me and I need and deserve to receive value for it. I am glad I didn’t get sucked into spending thousands elsewhere.
On the clinics website in his about section it clearly said he has:
‘a passion for intuitively exploring each patients’ circumstances…
‘Dr Mario’s services continue to bring clear and effective results as he explores a new paradigm of intuitive medical practice’
Dr Mario, this is far from my experience with you. I can see you are an intelligent and capable person. I hope this review can bring some positive insight and change to the way you approach and take care of your patients in the future.

Mullumbimby Comprehensive Health Centre encapsulates the best of modern, streamlined efficiency, along with good old fashioned community spirit and inclusion. The doctors I've consulted with for several years now have always been compassionate and reassuringly calm and confident; both professional and extraordinarily knowledgeable across a broad range of modern and alternate complementary medicinal disciplines, with a matching support and reception team to boot.

Always helpful and a pleasure to deal with and visit; I highly recommend this gem for young families and the wide assortment of Shire residents, who'll be listened to and attended by well-established local experts regardless of style or station.

Thanks for being a stalwart beacon of hope and help in our wonderfully diverse and special community.

I’m very picky when it comes to my health care professionals ? Glad Mullum Comprehensive has some great gems! Would give it 5-stars if all doctors would be as great as the ones I now see, know and trust. But sadly there have been some less than excellent experiences in the past too.

After visiting two hospitals, several times trying to find a solution to a severe rash which spread from my sons neck to his whole chest area over a period of 10 months. I decided to see Dr Michael Stapelberg, Mullumbimby Comprehensive Health Centre's skin specialist. Best decision i ever made rash was gone completely in less than two weeks and my sons self -esteem went sky high. Highly recommend Michael, he leaves no stone unturned to find a solution. Always helpful and considerate. Lovely reception people who are ready to help you make appointments that best suit your needs. The GPs are caring and understanding. The whole family have been patients at Mullumbimby Comprehensive Health for over 30 years.

This place sure has changed since going 'commercial'. Now the doctors are rude, dismissive and most of all abrupt, one actually saying "I don't have time for this". You will be rushed through, given referrals for tests and prescriptions over actual quality listening and care. The nurses and reception are fine, but the doctors are so arrogant. You'd have to be on death's door to pay to go to this place. I recommend going to Byron Hospital Outpatients instead; they're lovely there.
