If it were possible to give zero stars, I absolutely would. My recent experience at Monash Clayton Hospital’s Emergency Department was nothing short of unacceptable and deeply frustrating. Despite years of supposed development, there appears to be little to no improvement in the quality of service or efficiency.

The minimum wait time was over 3 hours. When approached politely to ask about an estimated wait time, I was met with a flood of vague, unhelpful excuses.

As a patient with a non-urgent condition, I was left waiting over 7 hours on an uncomfortable chair. For a country as developed and resource-rich as Australia, it is unacceptable that the emergency department appears to function with minimal staffing. It is shocking and disappointing to see such poor prioritisation and communication from both doctors and nurses.

The lack of coordination and responsiveness is concerning. If a doctor had simply taken 5–10 minutes to assess lower-priority patients periodically, many issues — like mine — could have been resolved within 30 minutes. It reflects poorly not only on the frontline care but on hospital management and leadership, who should be ashamed of the system they are running. Some say doctors or nurses outstanding at school does not mean they out standing at workplaces, I can clearly see on my own eyes at Monash.

This experience showed a clear lack of urgency, empathy, and efficiency. As someone who expected at least basic standards of care, I left the hospital deeply disappointed and without resolution. I sincerely hope Monash Clayton takes this feedback seriously and makes urgent changes to both staffing and patient flow management.

I want to thank Dr Sylvia, Dr Brad, the incredible emergency nurses, and the passing doctors and nurses who took care of me during my medical emergency at Monash.

While in emergency, they were professional, efficient, and genuinely caring. The team worked quickly and seamlessly, constantly checking in to make sure I was okay. It’s hard to put into words how grateful I was during such a stressful time, and how much I appreciated the care and compassion shown by everyone involved. Thank you to all who helped me that day.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. My mum went into Monash Medical Centre three days in a row with the same issue and not a single doctor put in any real effort to help her. She could have been dying and honestly, I don’t think a single person there would have cared.

She arrived by ambulance and was left waiting for 9 hours before anyone properly helped her — and even then, they just told her to go to her GP for an MRI instead of doing it there, while she was crying and begging for help because she was in so much pain. Even the paramedics agreed how horrible the quality of service is here. makes me think how bad you have to get to actually get cared about at a freaking hospital.

It’s absolutely disgusting behaviour from people whose job is meant to be caring for others in their worst moments. I’m so disappointed and honestly horrified that this is how they treat people in need. Shameful.

We recently welcomed our baby boy at Monash Maternity Clayton after a complex birth and week-long stay. The care we received was exceptional — every staff member showed genuine kindness, professionalism, and compassion. Special thanks to Dr. John Regan and his team
for his calm and humble presence, and Dr. Lufee Wong for her empathy during our scan. We felt safe, supported, and truly cared for every step of the way. We’ll always be grateful for the incredible team at Monash.
Regards
Kate

My wife is pregnant she is in paint and bleeding, she couldn’t sit. But in emergency department I was told there’s no empty beds wait in a waiting area.
I have visited the emergency department for the past 20 years a lot of time. But unfortunately there’s no improvement. They should categories patients the more in pain should get served first and they should put more beds for patients.
I think we should do petition so the government should take action against it. And improve those facilities. Last but not least when u call 000 ask for ambulance 🚑 there’s always an excuse that there’s a long wait time for that we will send you a cab/Taxi. It all sounds like we are living in a third world war country

Must give a zero star specially for emergency department, most of the staff roaming around without work, few doctors as per thier batch were sitting in the area on the computer instead of attending patients in the waiting hall. I took my wife to the ED at 6pm and till 11 :30 pm we was waiting to be seen by a doctor but unfortunately we left without treatment as no one knows when will be doctor available and it seems like no duty of care for the patients waiting for hours and hours .

According to my observation, most of the drop off zones around round-about in front of main entry to the building have been virtually used by selfish drivers as parking space just to save few dollars.

Such selfish act has caused those who really have to drop off or pick up patients have to temporarily stop at the only lane left of the round-about, subsequently the impatient drivers behind has to sound their horns predictably to show their displeasure.

Rules without enforcement are just meaningless! Have the hospital authorities ever considered enforcing the rules? Please, please, please!!!

One star is the best I can give for rating, perhaps I should give ZERO if the the system allows.

One of Melbourne's main hospitals. Always improving and getting better and better. The hospital felt very clean. Generally have only had positive experiences with the polite and professional staff.
