I came to emergency twice with severe excruciating back pain two months ago, which was radiating into my leg, and I also had partial numbness of the foot. Even though the receptionist and triage nurse who was triaging me was very polite, professional and sympathetic to my ordeal I was forced to sit and for wait for 8 hours on a plastic chair in extreme agony to see a doctor. Thank goodness for the triage nurse on duty on that day, who was triaging me and who tried to update me to the best of her ability about when I would be seen by a doctor. However I was shocked and appalled at the state of this hospital because I saw several people who were in severe pain like me and they were forced to lay down on the floor of the emergency department of this hospital as there were no separate areas for them to wait for the doctor to see them. And to be honest, i almost did the same thing. It would be good if there were a few spare separate cubicles with a bed in them where people with severe back pain or who were in severe pain like me could lay down and wait for the doctor to see them. It is clear that our hospitals are in crisis, and the federal government needs to spend more money on fixing our hospital crisis because this is inhumane and should not be allowed to happen in 21st century hospitals in Australia

I stayed in unit 2 for a week and felt pretty isolated at times because I couldn’t see my family very much but that aside I think the nurses were super friendly as well as the doctors and social workers. There was a coffee machine which was a plus as well as a tv.
I felt safe but just wanted to get out of there and it was a very long process and uncertainty around when I was going home. I was however lucky that I was only in there for one week. I think if I was in there for any longer I would have gone crazy.

I was a patient at this unit. Some of the nursing staff were great fantastic while others were not very helpful, and would leave you hanging or not even remembering to attend you. And that goes for some of the Doctors. And when you’re struggling with mental health you don’t want to feel dismissed or forgotten but understood and cared for. I’m very disappointed because they don’t have a very good management or system in place. They failed to send my medical records to my gp and when my mental health flared and I had called for my records they brushed me off and told me I would have to pay money for them to talk to talk to my gp who had nothing from them to help me. If I wasn’t blessed by God to have had family around this could have been very tragic for me. The emergency staff did apologies on their behalf and did refer this case to negligence. they need a better system please I urge any one who is in urgent need please don’t come to this facility your life and wellbeing most importantly mental health is more important then just being just another tragic number on their system you are important! I would urge to try maybe Another hospital as this is my own personal experience

This is a mixed review based on some of the encounters I’ve had:

First point I wanted to address was the poor professionalism of some of the social workers; a few of them disregarded my privacy completely (e.g barging into my room in the morning without knocking and demanding me to get out of bed. Another one threatened me to go to the hospital; another one called the police over because they thought I was going to off myselfーdespite zero news or evidence.)

It was a really unpleasant experience and could traumatise and affect someone negatively. (The individual in speaking is already in a neurotic state of mind, so that is just counterintuitive to doーInstead of being forceful and aggressive, try being more gentle and reassuring.)

(No Star Review) of Monash Mental Health Dandenong

A very poor quality service and staff. I get an injection at this facility every two weeks over a disputed and an inaccurate diagnosis. I have told the nurse/case worker in question on several occasions that he needs further training on administering the injection as his manner is painful. I vow before God that he may not be in control of his actions because regardless of my pleas he continues with these painfully deliberate and sadistic methods. After my last visit I actually feel quite powerless and abused as no matter what I say he continues in a manner that I know isn’t right from previous experience (other nurses) and injections. He doesn’t always do it and I suspect he diligently follows orders. His behaviour Is wrong and I testify before God that what I have written is true. Help!

For all patients of monash health psych ward, once you have completed your term there, go to the doctor request a mental health care plan 10 free visits, then go to a private psychologist not aligned with monash then tell them your story and request a fast track to NDIS. Hope this helps it will definitely boost you financially for the trauma monash health has caused.

Triage staff in a hurry to triage out, forgetting to listen to the nature of inquiry first. Can be heard speaking in degrading manner about caller owing to failure to take care to place call on hold. As usual, tempting to blame staff, but I can bet like always they need more funding. Badly
