I was uncomfortable with how Ms. Barnes publicly responds to former clients.

While the tone may seem therapeutic, it can come across as dismissive—especially in sensitive cases involving concerned parents.

Some replies may also raise questions about client confidentiality.

Despite having a very extensive waitlist in which myself and my children were put on for a few months, I can definitely say that having my child speak to Nia Barnes was well worth it. Mind Matters Cairns is a family friendly practice that fights the norms of a clinical office, providing a very homely and welcoming vibe. The three people working for this business have been nothing but a joy to be greeted by, handling all problems that I would come across. Right from the beginning their resident receptionist Alexander went to great lengths to make sure I always felt welcome and taken care of, and he was more than happy to care for my kids while I was in with the psychologist! Nia has proven herself to be a great help for my children whom were diagnosed with ptsd due to childhood trauma, and has given me many effective ways to help my children in the future.

Nia Barnes is extremely unprofessional in her conduct. She judges parents, siding with the father. She developed a relationship with my childrens father and assisted him in turning my daughters against me. She was reluctant to provide strategies or feedback to assist my children . Medication was her preferred treatment for my daughters anxiety. I would not recommend Nia Barnes if your intention is to help your children.

Nia and her team are incredible. I am very grateful to have been pointed in their direction. My daughter’s therapy has helped her immensely and the team at Mind Matters have done everything to support her. Mind Matters provided an opportunity for our daughter to engage in alternate therapies without the use of medication.

I have recently been using this service to help my 8 year old daughter with struggles she is dealing with at school. I had noticed her to be quite withdrawn, not out of character for her, however, to me as a mum, she seemed to be struggling inside. I always trust my instincts. I tried to get her some help from her school as this seemed to be where the problems were coming from. Her school did not have the resources and did not recognise that she was struggling within herself. I decided to approach this privately to enable myself to be involved in her treatment (no medication involved). We have had 3 visits so far and the results have been unbelievable. I knew she didn't have big problems as we as adults feel are big problems, but to her - it was her whole world. Talking with Nia Barnes and allowing my daughter to express herself and her feelings to someone she trusts and will open up to has been my main concern. I had been trying for almost 2 years to make a breakthru without any luck. Within 3 sessions Nia had broken down the wall and was starting to make progress. My daughter enjoys going to these sessions, she has anxiety about them, but knowing that I am there in the room with her helps immensely. I dont contribute much to the discussion, My daughter holds the floor, be what very quietly. My daughter has shown improvement at home and is not withdrawn as much - although her problems and thought patterns are not a quick fix and will require changes in hers and mine mineset. Nia has helped my family in so many ways that i myself could only imagine. Parenting is not easy, it doesn't come with instructions, but we deserve it to our kids to offer assistance for them in this every evolving world we live in. I would not like to be a child in this timeframe. They dont have the freedom in which we had growing up - its very sad. In summary, I would thoroughly recommend her to anyone who needs assistance. Sometimes pyschologist and patient do not mix well, then try another. I can only review my own personal experiences. Thank you

Would not recommend Nia Barnes she is very unprofessional, Will make up lies, and destroy your family, should not be working with innocent kids. She wont help, all she will do is get your children to make up lies and believe in lies. Would never see her again all she did was cause a huge heartache for my family. Very disgusted in her service.

My son spent three months undergoing Neurofeedback appoinments at Mind Matters to assist with concentration issues (previously diagnosed ADHD). After a couple of months the improvements were noticed at home and at school, these improvements are still visible 6 months later. All my interactions with Nia and Laura were always very professional and warm.
I highly recommend Mind Matters!

Nia Barnes breaches professionalism. I do not recommend this psychologist. I have been advised by other professional bodies to report her neglect and inappropriate behaviour. If you are seeking to heal dysfunctional relationships then look elsewhere.
