My only suggestion would be that once your procedure has been done, those patients get priority to go to the counter.
Having to wait in line, to see reception, after a procedure isn't pleasant. Dizzy and uncomfortable but waiting in line.

Doctors, nurses and all staff very pleasant. Very professional. Excellent doctors.

Although her surgeon was very good , My sister experienced no care. Out of surgery and had to dress herself. In great pain Next morning she asked for a coffee as had not eaten since 7am previous morning and was told she would have to wait till 8am. When "breakfast" did arrive she received a dry piece of bread with Vegemite, no butter even. The pad under her on bed was full of blood when she had to get up to get dressed HERSELF when she discovered this bloody pad and had to throw away herself. At one stage she was in tears. She is not a complaint person. We are all devastated and will NEVER EVER use this hospital again.

I recently had a 11 day stay at this hospital and my husband was in for 14 days. We were in there at the same time and they put me on the same floor as him as he was surgical and I was medical,
The nurses were amazing and so were the doctors
I love the emergency department as the waiting time was approx 15 mins and mine was 5 mins. Found them to be thorough and very compassionate.

I had severe pain after an operation in August2024 and attended the Mater Emergency Department several times.
Every time I attended I was seen to by the reception staff and forwarded to a bed within 10 minutes every time.
The staff were amazing and very thorough to the extent I had my bloods checked and kept in until they were sure I was ok to leave.
I was seen to by very caring Nurses and Doctors and was surprised an Emergency Department could be this quick and so considerate.
Big shout out to a heavyset Doctor named John I think.
A nurse named Basil and a young female doctor who helped me with my pain.
Thank you Mater Emergency, you literally made a very painful experience so much more tolerable.

Had the unfortunate experience of going to Cath Lab and then a few months later, the Day Surgery Unit. Have been to numerous facilities in Melbourne over a number of years, so there are a number I have to compare to.

Nursing care here is by the far the worst I have ever encountered in any facility. Communication by nursing staff is non-existent.

In the Day Surgery Unit, I was waiting for 4.5 hours. I was in sight of the Nursing Station. After a while it occurred to me that for some time I had not spotted any nurses and all the other beds were empty. It seemed the entire shift had knocked off and left and because it was Day Surgery there was no afternoon shift.

Already battling anxiety about my surgery and the extended wait with no explanation, this made me very tempted to just get out of bed, get dressed and go home.

Yes, I understand there are problems post Covid with obtaining adequate staff but there is also an obligation to provide adequate care, which seems to be lacking

And yes a lot of the problems were to due to the surgeons, but that is where good nurses step up and advocate on behalf of their patients.

In the Cath Lab, I watched a patient come out of anaesthesia in a panic and struggle to breathe. Later he was sitting in the edge of the bed, feet on the floor, hunched over, clenching the mattress. In the hours that followed, and I am talking about 3 hours here, he continued to sit, unmoving. I could not sit for that long in that position as he did. At one point our eyes met, and I swear that man was very frightened. I never saw any nurse approach him. I was only gone for about 20 minutes in that time for my procedure

Oh yes, came back from Cath Lab, where by the way the hospital gowns were so worn out and threadbare that you can forget about trying to preserve your dignity - was told to avoid using my right hand due to having had an artery accessed by an angiogram. Fair enough.

So when I am eventually allowed food, ravenous after now having not eaten for 20 hours, I am given sandwiches in a plastic sealed plastic container, a screw top bottle of water of water, two biscuits in plastic wrap and a cup of tea. Nurse dumps these beside me and walks off. Three of these items require both hands to open.

Do better.

Just had the best care ever by Dr Jean-yves, he is highly knowledgeable and he also dives in deep to find the cause of the problem instead of just putting a bandaid on it so to speak. I am so lucky to have been in the care of such a wonderful Doctor. Also nurse Jason was wonderful at applying cannula, very professional and in happy spirits.
Thank you!

All staff, from the reception to the nurses , anaesthetist to the Dr who did the surgery were so friendly, knowledgeable and compassionate. Even though this hospital trip cost me a bit I was happy to support such a wonderful hospital with such wonderful staff at my own expense. They all do such a great job.
