The ER nurses at the Mater Hospital are such a lovely, warm and supportive bunch of humans with the most caring bedside manner. It’s actually my birthday today and although I was in immense pain, all of the nurses made me feel so special and took the time to wish me a happy birthday. Thank you for the hospitality and making my day a little brighter.

I presented to Emergency recently with a bleeding nose from both on top of my nose and inside my nose after a cows head collided with my face. I was admitted immediately and seen quite quickly, for the cost of $250. The doctor came in, decided I didn't need x-rays or anything and placed a bandaid on my nose then discharged me. Was there for roughly 30mins from about 6pm-6:30pm

By the time I got home from hospital, over the other side of town. My nose had bled through the bandaid he'd stuck on me.

I replaced it again with one of my own bandaids and packed my car to head to Blackwater. Halfway out, I touched my nose, as it was itchy, and broke the seal on my bandaid again realising it was still obviously profusely bleeding.

I dialled 13HEALTH and spoke to a nurse who asked a bunch of medical questions and advised me that based off my answers, she was required to send an ambulance to me. I told her I was halfway between Rockhampton and Blackwater and that I could present immediately to Blackwater Hospital once I get there.

Which I did. The nurses at Blackwater Hospital were shocked I was not kept in and monitored for concussion. They also could not believe only a bandaid was placed over my nose for the bleeding. It was split open and required glueing shut and then they covered my injury with steristrips and gave me a pack to change them if they got wet or started to come off.

After being properly patched up and checked by the doctor (who had to be called in) I was finally released after 11pm, free of charge and in a lot better state then when I left the Mater earlier that night for $250!

Cannot express my gratitude for this hospital. We rushed our little girl up to the Mater last night with a suspected stomach issue. After she was screaming in agony at home for 30+ minutes. The nurses and doctors were amazing, and so patient and caring. Our daughter rarely gets sick, so hospitals and doctors are quite scary for her. Despite her fear and screaming while getting her blood pressure and temp taken, the nurses were so attentive to her needs.

Any hospital that can put a smile on a sore toddlers face is a great hospital in my eyes.
We hope not to be back there soon, but we know our daughter is in safe hands if we do ever end up back at the Mater.

She really loves her new Mater teddies, and they slept with her all night.

My partner was required to attend the Rockhampton Mater Day surgery. While it ended up being a lengthy process (due to no one’s fault), the staff who looked after my partner throughout the process were absolutely wonderful. They made sure he was comfortable and at ease in every way possible. There was some banter and funny light-hearted conversation throughout. A big shout out and thank you to the staff at the Rockhampton Mater Day Surgery department. You are absolutely fabulous!

I presented at Emergency advised I should be admitted but with no beds available I was given patience and care and monitored for 4 and half hours with X-rays and appropriate tests. I could not fault any staff nurses or doctor. Thank you so much. You are all appreciated for all you do.

On 20 th of October base hospital referred my dad-in-law to Hillcrest hospital but accidentally we went to mater private hospital and I provided them our all documents, in documents it was clearly written that we supposed to go Hillcrest hospital but one of the staff probably named KIM straight away asked me for $650 to admit without saying anything, I know that was my fault also because I went there accidentally but I was in too much stress because of my dad- in-law condition, but that lady just took all documents and took $650 from me, in that condition I didn't have any options and later base hospital nurse rang me and told me we supposed to go to Hillcrest hospital and when I asked the lady why did you do that to me she just laughed and didn't say anything, very bad experience ever 🥹🥹🥹 I had to spend around 10-15 k for my dad-in-law's kidney stone and that $650 was very huge amounts for in that condition 👎🏻

Overall good experience, all the staff were excellent. Care was what I expected. Smooth pre admin process and surgery was on time. Food was ok needed more tho haha.
