I had a knee replacement recently and cannot thank the complete Mater Private Hospital Staff, Nurses and Doctors enough. From my first interaction at reception, right the way through the complete process of using all of the Hospitals services, I cannot fault this Hospital. This hospital is worth every cent of our Private Health Insurance Premiums. One thing I do suggest if you are a patient here, and it would be the same at any Hospital, is to understand that even at your most fragile time of need, be nice. You get what you sew. I hope I no longer need their services again (If you know what I mean), but I would be delighted for this hospital to look after me or any of our family in the future. Keep Up The Great Work.

Cost cutting is far more important than the care of their patients .My recent, in the ward experience after back surgery was awful. There was one nurse for the whole night, for the entire ward, no communication regarding the meals. I would hate to be bed ridden. The Mater private hospital is so under staffed it made me consider never going private again as I know the public hospitals have to have a higher staff to patient ratio.

Just wanted to share my experience. I went through triage fairly quickly and the staff were amazing Doctor Tim was great and very thorough. I then went to 9 North the next morning after spending the night in the emergency ward due to bed shortages... but I got breakfast and had a shower down there the staff were great.
I then went to the ward and was under the infectious disease doctor Dr Platon Chopticany
Who was so nice and just over saw me seeing Dr Watson the urologist who again was so nice and thorough. The nurses on the ward michelle Morgan some lovely student nurses the cafe staff and the kitchen staff, cleaners attendents went out of their way to be nice so all in all it was a great experience the food was amazing too.
Thanku 😊 mater private south Brisbane xxx

I had spinal Surgery here in 2025, from pre admission to post operative care, all staff and services were fantastic, I highly recommend this hospital. The food was superb so fresh and I could order exactly what I wanted and it was delivered quickly better then some hotel room services, it’s the best I’ve had from a hospital.

I spent three nights at the Mater Private after undergoing prostate surgery there in May.

From the moment I arrived at the Mater, I knew that I was in good hands. The registration and “check-in” procedure was handled quickly and efficiently by a friendly lady in the comfortable “welcome lounge” on level 7. Following that I was taken downstairs to a waiting room, changed into hospital gear and gown and, after a short wait of about 30 minutes, I was taken into surgery. There was minimum time-wasting or messing around, and it was all handled calmly and efficiently. The place hums like a well oiled machine and everything runs smoothly, which is a blessing, as when one is about to undergo surgery, one's stress levels and anxiety are sky high.

Once out of surgery, I was taken to level 10, where I shared a ward with three other patients. The nurses did all they could to make me as comfortable, settled and relaxed as possible. During the night, one of my room-mates, an elderly gent with dementia, became aggressive and unco-operative after coming back late from surgery. This presented a difficult and challenging situation for the staff to deal with, but to their credit, they handled it calmly with tact and skill, and were eventually able to talk the patient down and get him back to his bed. Next door, the nursing manager came in person to apologise to me and the other residents of that ward for the noise and ruckus of the previous night.

The nurses that attended to me, without exception (and there were many) were caring, compassionate and kind, in addition to being competent, knowledgeable and hardworking. The admin staff, cleaners and especially the delightful ladies who brought me my meals, all conducted themselves with the same high standards of professionalism, care and compassion.

And to top it all, everything is done with a cheery demeanour and a warm smile.

The food was of the highest quality, and despite my pain and discomfort, I couldn’t help but be excited at the large variety of healthy choices on offer and the method of ordering - which is via a computer monitor cum TV screen, in front of the bed. It reminded me a bit of a plane, where you have a screen in front of you, except that the designers of these ones had cleverly devised a swinging arm, so one could push it out of the way. It also had TV channels and other entertainment forms, ensuring that one was never bored. After placing an order, the food was quickly delivered, it was exactly as described and I enjoyed all my meals.

Spending time in this private hospital has once again driven home to me, (not that I needed it), the vital importance of having - and keeping forever - private health insurance. Without it, I probably would have waited months for this urgent surgery and the treatment I received would have been hard to match in a public facility.

Thanks Mater Private and all the nurses and doctors who attended to me.

Almost DIED due to medical negligence. Earlier this year I came here with severe back pain. I have the highest pain tolerance in the entire world so when I’m in pain, it means I’m probably dying! And guess what, I WAS! I went to the emergency and basically had to beg them to take me in and examine me. The female doctor that was put in charge of looking after me did NOTHING. I was there for 6 hours laying on the bed in agony, no tests had been run, no bloods had been taken, nothing. She said to me that I was over exaggerating my pain. The only pain relief I was given by her was paracetamol. Once the 6 hour mark hit, a new doctor was assigned to me, thank god for him because I was quite literally hours away from dying from SEPSIS!!!! Straight away he felt my back and knew something was seriously wrong, he sent me to get an emergency CT scan and put me straight on morphine, many other schedule 8 medications and antibiotics . He put me on serious pain meds as well as antibiotics before any test results had even come back. He could see how much pain I was in! UNLIKE THE FIRST DOCTOR. The CT scan came back showing I had a double kidney infection as well as sepsis which has spread across my body. I was admitted and in hospital for a long time!!! I could have died, I had so many nurses tell me how close I was to dying but no doctor wanted to admit fault! I’m now in the process of contacting solicitor’s and building a case against the hospital to sue. ALSO no one in the hospital told me I had sepsis, it was until many months later when my husband who is a doctor asked to see my CT scan results told me that I had sepsis everywhere and even in the report it said so!!!!! I’ve already lodged a formal complaint as well as requested all documents and information on who the first doctor was so Legal action can be taken against the hospital.

I ALREADY STATED IN YHE REVIEW WELL BEFORE YOUR RESPONSE A FORMAL COMPLAINT HAS ALREADY BEEN MADE!
