29th November 2024
I recently had a number of major health events which required nursing home care for post op
wound healing.
Luckily my surgical team suggested I contact Lithgow Community Nurses who were superb.
The women and men who staff this organization are a powerful statement about our healthcare
system and our country.
Recently one of the Nurses phoned me to alert me that a number of scalp wounds which she
had been treating were dangerously infected and suggested that I contact my GP immediately
to treat these wounds with antibiotics. I have done so and the health outcome could not have
been better.
This group of highly motivated and trained health professionals make me proud and grateful to be Australian and to live in this Lucky Country of ours.
Lithgow Community Nurses thank you. I will never forget you or your tremendous Loving Kindness.

I had a good experience here after coming in on a weekday at around 7.15am with a cat bite. I was tended to almost immediately, they washed the wounds, gave me a tetanus shot anlong with painkillers and the doctor gave me a script for antibiotics. I was in and out within 20 mins and was so thankful for their help and easing my anxiety around the whole ordeal!

Not a very nice or clean hospital. There is a few staff that inject unwanted medication into people, they did it to me. Some staff are extremely rude and treat people like they are nothing. Horrible experience. Traumatic.

This is a long one, but I feel it is well worth taking the time to read my opinion.
I attended day surgery yesterday, June 18, 2024, for a colonoscopy at Lithgow Hospital.
I have nothing but praise for the whole procedure.

Staff in order of appearance:
The first person I encountered on admission was Lyn, who was extremely friendly and professional. All the staff who attended to me were compassionate, knowing my state, both physical and mental, after enduring the preparation for this procedure. I was hungry and grumpy.
Once I made it past Lyn, I was handed off to Asmita, who I believe was quite recently out in the field. She was very diligent and was never far away, should I need her. She would appear out of nowhere to be beside me to help, listen, adjust the very revealing gown, and tuck me into the warm blanket. Always with a smile, good conversation, and tea and sandwiches when I thought I was about to die from starvation. All in all, just being there and knowing she cared was a great comfort.
Dr. Koodehi was my anesthetist. He noted my intolerance of Benzo’s and provided an excellent substitute.
Dr. Fred Boseto was my surgeon. Dr. Fred was very reassuring and made me feel at ease. He is well known in his field but is NOT the usual prima-donna often found at this level of his discipline. He laughs and appreciates the ‘crappy’ humor associated with this procedure.
The recovery room nurse, Dianne, was just what a nurse should be. She was professional, caring, had a sense of humor, and appeared not to notice my stupidity during recovery from my sedation.
I thank you all. You will have to survive another visit from me in two years.
I acknowledge these underpaid, overworked, and underappreciated professional members of Lithgow Hospital.

If those who write the cheques read this, I suggest you recognize the valuable assets you have at that hospital and reward them accordingly.

Had an amazing experience giving birth here. The midwives are amazing from
all the check up to giving birth and even after birth care. Dr Brown did his best too to help us bring out our wonderful bub. The Imaging department shows care in all my scan appointment too.. Thanks to everyone! ❤️❤️❤️

I really didn't want to write this review as I would like to keep Lithgow Public Day Surgery as well as their imaging department a secret so they are not overwhelmed!! Selfish. Had public cataract surgery a month ago after a 12 month wait - the surgeon and theatre team were faultless. Extremely capable and caring. The admin staff were friendly and efficient. The nursing staff post op were brilliant and extremely attentive and caring. Just the most incredible team!! A couple of weeks later had to have an MRI to check for issues - excellent new equipment and really great staff. It was a slight emergency and the team worked hard to fit me in the next day by juggling appointments. Who could ask for better care? An outstanding hospital and staff - hopefully with improved funding more hospitals can be like Lithgow. Second cataract surgery now on the waiting list....

More of a triage than hospital, assess, stabilise (if needed) and transfer seems to be the policy, they can't even set a broken bone. Nurses despite a lot been in training are generally pretty good, Dr's don't seem to spend time with patients relying more on the nurses observations and have a distinct inability to explain things to you. Depending on who you are also seems to dictate your treatment, the poor, homeless and those with substance abuse problems are not going to be treated the same as someone with a job but as it goes if you need medical attention you will receive it but you would do better if you could get to another "hospital". And YES I will be treated differently (in a negative way) when they become aware of this post....

Was enroute from Sydney to Mudgee when my GP called and said I needed urgent ECG and bloods. Lithgow was nearest hospital so my GP rang them to inform I was on the way. Staff, despite being busy, were prepared for me, attended me with great care and expediency. Mandi was very kind, efficient and caring. Her infection control processes were excellent. Far better than our Sydney hospitals for care and efficiency, with far less funding. I felt very safe. Thank you Lithgow Hospital ED
