Having a small dedicated ward to the lippy girl is so special. You really get to create your our community and connect with people and share experiences and advice. I’m excited to come back for my potential touch ups and arm surgery in the future. Wouldn’t choose another hospital after this experience, they are the best!

I am feeling great after vein treatment, one down side is the compression provided, it is literally cutting the circulation off from my inner thigh/groin all the way around. Would highly recommend some thought go into the compression used as it is so painful where it cuts in at the top of each leg

I have inherited lipoedema from my mother, who has advanced stage III, and reside in Sydney. Despite the clinic being located on the Gold Coast, I was willing to travel for extraction surgery. However, when I contacted the clinic to book a one-on-one meeting with the surgeon to discuss the surgery and ask my questions, I was informed that I needed to attend a group Zoom call first.

I objected to this, as I believe the patient journey is personal. Even though the Zoom call allows participants to remain anonymous with names and cameras turned off, I do not want to sit through a 60-90 minute call with others to discuss such a sensitive matter. Every case is unique, and mandating a group call is absurd.

With over 13 years of experience as a healthcare provider, having worked in eight different public and private hospitals, I am more than capable of conducting my own medical research. It is my right as a patient to request a one-on-one consultation to discuss my specific issue or concern. An initial specialist consultation should be a minimum of 45-60 minutes to provide ample time for thorough discussion.

The clinic's admin failed to justify the group Zoom call and continued to advocate for conservative management discussion during the group zoom call, which does not apply to my case. Refusing my request for a one-on-one consultation with the surgeon is unprofessional and unacceptable. I had no idea that Australia was moving towards a model similar to the US, where patient rights are dictated by practice policies rather than established laws.

POST CLINIC RESPONSE: They claim in their response that I was advised “I can have one on one discussion”, so I would like to post this screenshot from their own response which clearly states “The purpose is to educate about our protocol which includes strict conservative management requirements. If you do not want to participate in conservative management you will not be able to have surgery with our team, as conservative management is a mandatory requirement for surgery.”

They are essentially stating that surgery is not an option unless conservative management is pursued first. Since when does a clinic get to dictate what a patient can and cannot do with their own body? Where is the bodily autonomy in this? How can such a decision be made without even reviewing my personal case? I am baffled that this clinic is allowed to operate with such unreasonable rules.
