My mother is a current resident and while I am happy as she is with her nursing care, it's when I try to ring her that I have a problem. I live interstate and at least 60% of the time I am unable to talk to her as the one mobile phone is busy! The recorded message says they will ring back which only sometimes happens.I feel that with the ammount of money mum pays for her care, it would be nice to be able to talk to her. She is unable to use a mobile phone and does not want to so I wonder why they are unable to provide a second phone to take to patients.

Relatively new to this facility my elderly parents as residents say "If you've got to be in aged care then this place is tops!" They are impressed with all the nursing attention they get and compliment the quality of the food. I have found the communication exemplary. It offers warm areas to sit. Plenty of activities. They certainly do their best and try to create an atmosphere of community.

I would like to show my gratitude and thanks from the bottom of my heart to all the staff at Killara Glades from the General Manager, Amrita to the Admin and Nursing Staff, for the wonderful care they have given my Mother, who I know is happy and healthy, all thanks to their wonderful devotion in looking after all of the residents particularly in the Nursing Home where she lives. All throughout the COVID pandemic, (which was kept at bay in the Nursing Home for such a long time) their strict adherence to the National Health Rules was commendable. We were kept up to date with every change made and were accommodated by either window visits or zoom and online messages to our loved ones. I cannot recommend Killara Glades highly enough for anyone considering placing their loved one in care, they will be truly well looked after and loved just like they are family. Thank you from the Wood and Wade family.

My Mother in Law was admitted to Loudes last year, whilst we were on a family trip in Europe. She came to Lourdes via Hornsby Hospital, for what we thought was to be for palliative care. Even via phone conversations overseas I could tell that Wendy, who manages the facility was a competent and experienced nurse and had my MIL's best interests at heart. She felt that my MIL could get better, and that is what she and all her wonderful staff achieved. When we first visited Lourdes on our return, all the staff we met were professional as well as achieving great outcomes for my MIL. She went from being barely 40kg to 44kg. They ensured that the physio was involved and working on her mobilising safely and she was involved in conversation, and generally felt part of the Lourdes team. She did so well, that we managed to get her back home - It is honestly one of the best nusing homes that I have seen. Being a nurse myself, and having worked in nursing homes earlier in my career, I can honestly say that Lourdes is a wonderful home for people requiring that level of care. Thank you to Wendy and all your staff, we really appreciate your generosity and hard work in all that you do.

I visit Opal Lourdes weekly as a volunteer and am always truly impressed by the warm atmosphere. The staff are all verydvery and really care for the residents - they take the time to talk genuinely to all residents. Also, the chef makes amazing food 🙂 It is a special place, really warm and caring.

3 yrs ago I went to move my parent in to Lourdes. The room was old with a cramped substandard ensuite and nothing had not been cleaned from the previous resident. They promised the cleaners would do it the next day. 3 days later it still wasn't done and I showed the staff member where I had written the date in dust on the windowsill 3 days earlier. There were maintenance issues like a missing window handle and lock and I was told to write it in the maintenance book even before my parent had moved in. NO WAY SHOULD I BE DOING THAT!!!! There was severe urine staining around the toilet and the toilet brush was up on top of the shaving cabinet (hygiene issue!!!). The exhaust fan was ancient and noisy and the light was a yellow incandescent style that would not be suitable with poorer eyesight. I asked for a key to open the door to the garden to aid bringing in my parent's clothing and possessions through what I thought would have been an emergency exit or evacuation door and had 2 or 3 staff members having a heated discussion outside the room about where it was which was nothing short of embarrassing for me. They couldn't find the key after 30 or so minutes and I didn't need it then. As I began to move my parent"s thing's into the room I was not even acknowledged by any staff members.... I could have been anyone? I asked for a cleaning cloth to wipe down the shelves and next day I found a packet of wet one style incontinence wipes in the bathroom. My parent is not incontinent so I presume they were left for cleaning purposes? The curtains were thin and wouldn't have shielded headlights from the adjacent driveway. The air con unit was covered in dust and the filters were disgusting. On the day before my parent was due to move in we introduced ourselves to dining room staff and the lady said she was "agency" staff and won't be here the next day. The majority of staff were on work visas and some had very poor English skills. Thankfully my parent saw the light and decided to stay at home where she remains today independently living. Unless things have dramatically changed and the place has been modernised recently I suggest you steer clear of Lourdes. Don't be fooled by the posh address and the lovely bushland setting. I gave the 1 star for the setting but even the small verandah outside was covered in leaf litter and other rubbish as well as many months growth of cobwebs and the garden was not well maintained. the place was rundown and shabby and when we decided to withdraw our parent from Lourdes the admin staff member didn't seem surprised.

If you like your parents do not send them here. Yesterday they gave everyone biscuits for breakfast! None of the food is fresh - everything comes in powdered or frozen. The menus are terrible - chips for lunch, chips for dinner. They treat the staff terribly - four chefs sacked in the last year and four managers! It is just profit, profit, profit! Seniors need good, healthy and nutritious food.
