My wife had an incredibly frustrating and disappointing experience with Dr. Yat when seeking a mental health plan for my 9-year-old child, who is struggling with anxiety and stress. As per standard procedure, a GP is supposed to provide this plan, allowing access to a psychology assessment and Medicare rebates for follow-up support.

At my first appointment, this GP refused to issue a mental health plan, saying it was unnecessary and that such plan will 'mark her file for life' and that she could go directly to a psychologist without a mental health plan, and for no extra cost. After speaking with multiple other parents and professionals, I learned that obtaining a mental health plan for an assessment is a completely normal and accepted process—something that other medical centers would have no issue providing.

I returned for a second appointment, hoping for a more reasonable discussion, but this time the GP was even more adamant, rude, and dismissive. Instead of showing understanding or professionalism, she acted as if she was doing me a favor rather than simply following proper medical procedures. She made the process unnecessarily difficult, adding more stress to an already challenging situation. Worse, she made my child explain herself all over again in a an already tense moment. Then, she pushed me to use my private insurance instead of a mental health plan, and when I pushed back to have a mental health plan, she asked me to book a third appointment to final go through the questionnaire and assess my eligibility to the mental health plan.

In the end, I was left with no mental health plan, two wasted appointments, and valuable time lost in getting my child the support they need. Now, I have no choice but to start over with a different GP—something that could have been easily avoided had this doctor simply followed the standard process.

This was an unacceptable, stressful experience, and I would strongly caution anyone seeking a mental health plan or psychological support to avoid Dr. Yat and find a GP who actually listens, understands, and follows proper procedures without making the process more difficult than it needs to be.

All the doctors and staff at Kenmore Family Medical Practice are caring and considerate. I moved here in 2008 and haven't been anywhere else. I trust them fully with all aspects of mine and my family's health care.

A lovely practice with friendly and consistent staff, doctors and nurses. Our family has been at this practice since we arrived in Brisbane 23 years ago. We would absolutely recommend this practice to anyone - young, old or in between.

No longer a family medical centre, but a private seeking-the-highest-profit-business-entity given the amount of money and the way they charge you money. I was visiting this centre for the first time, so didn't know their ways of charging money. I knew before I went there that it's no longer a bulk billing medical centre so that I have to pay some out-of-pocket money. That's fine, given that there're not too many bulk billing centres anymore. However, the moment they told me that I have to pay 150 dollars ($67.1 out-of-pocket money) for a roughly 10-minute visit, I realised that there's something wrong. I asked why they charged me so much, they replied that they have to charge me twice of the standard consultation fees, because the consultation took more than 15 minutes. So, each 15-minute time charges one standard consultatoin fees, and even if your consultation only takes 16 minutes--one more minute than 15 minutes--you have to pay two standard consultation fees. So, that's the reason why my fees were doubled. Also, because I didn't know this rule beforehand, I didn't count the time--I'm not even sure if the consultation really took more than 15 minutes!!!

Overall, very bad practice, not respectful. Won't go there anymore.

By the way, some other reviewers mentioned in the reviews that they've changed their boss very recently. So, I think the still very high Google rating (currently 4.9 star at the time of writing this) is perhaps due to their past practice before they changed their boss. Therefore, it doesn't represent their current practice at all.

Could not have been happier with the service from Dr Kathryn Lewena for my grandson this week. She had a lovely manner with and was very thorough in her examination. It was only for conjunctivitis but she managed to calm both the toddler and the grandma. Thank you !

First time at Kenmore Family Medical Practice a few days ago but initial contact with reception was a very positive start. Very respectful and helpful and professional. The GP I saw was an absolute treasure, very thorough and professional, kind and listened and responded with respect and care. I was nervous going in because I find it challenging to change doctors. But I came out of the consult feeling so relieved and fortunate to have the kindness and support I received.
