⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Life-Changing Care at Hirondelle Private Hospital

As someone who has battled Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), major depressive disorder, and chronic anxiety for many years, I’ve spent a lot of time navigating the mental health system. With 34 hospital admissions under my belt and having been to nearly every mental health facility in NSW, I thought I knew what to expect.

But Hirondelle Private Hospital is on another level entirely.

From the very first time I walked through their doors, I felt something different — something I had never experienced before in a mental health setting. It wasn’t just the warm environment or the modern facilities. It was the genuine compassion, professionalism, and dedication that radiates from every single staff member.

I now return to Hirondelle a few times a year for treatment that has truly changed my life. The team here is incredibly knowledgeable, and they make you feel safe, informed, and supported every step of the way.

What truly makes Hirondelle extraordinary is the people:

The nursing team is absolutely phenomenal. Every nurse I’ve encountered has been not only highly skilled and professional, but also deeply caring. They take the time to understand you as a person, not just a patient, and treat you with unwavering dignity and kindness, there have been many times in my mental health journey that I wasn't been seen or heard by nursing staff but here at hirrondelle talking to the nurses is like talking to a friend or family member that truly want nothing but the best for you, I've never experienced a level of care that is deeply genuine and thoughtful, Ive never felt more comfortable in a mental health facility as I have been here and majority of that is the beautiful souls that make up the nursing team here.

I must highlight Margherita, the hospital’s nursing unit manager. She is a beacon of compassion and strength. Her presence is incredibly calming, and she offers a level of care and emotional support that is rare and precious. She genuinely cares about the whole person, and her kindness touched me on a soul-deep level.

Then there’s Nissa, the Care Coordinator. Words honestly fall short in describing the impact she’s had on my journey. Nissa has a gift — she provides people not only with practical tools and life-changing skills but also with the belief that recovery is possible. Her empathy, insight, and unwavering support are like nothing I’ve ever experienced in mental health care. She is truly one of a kind.

The psychiatrists at Hirondelle are also outstanding. They listen. They care. They collaborate with you to build a treatment plan that actually works — no judgment, no cookie-cutter approaches, just real, personalised care.

Every single person at Hirondelle — from admin to the medical team — works together to ensure that you don’t just survive your stay… you thrive after it. They go above and beyond to help you leave a stronger, more balanced version of yourself.

If you’re hesitant or anxious about going into hospital, please let me reassure you: Hirondelle is different. It’s a place where healing happens, where you are truly seen, and where your mental health is taken seriously with compassion and respect.

After so many years of searching, I can finally say I’ve found a place that feels safe, healing, and genuinely life-changing. Thank you Hirondelle, from the bottom of my heart.

I’ve only been here for a few days so I’ll be sure to edit this review when I’m done with the programme because I’m deriving such huge benefit from the level of care this hospital provides.

I came to Hirondelle struggling with addiction after the worst year of my life, having lost my husband to cancer, been sexually assaulted twice and made redundant from my job within a 6 week period, and then having the custody of my child seized.

There’s an ethos here, guys. The staff are all amazing - every single one of them. The patients are all here focused on reform and detox because they’re well guided and supported, the class structure and presenters are phenomenal and empower you to share difficult stories with care, the food is OUT OF THIS WORLD, and even the cleaning staff are compassionate and understanding.

Don’t waste your money on any other facility. I’m immensely grateful that I ended up here, and I know this will lead to a permanent change solely due to this institution built with care, and careful rehabilitation of their patients in mind.

Special shout outs to Marilyn, Yasmin, Judith, Barry, Lan…. Can’t even name all the amazing faces I’ve encountered. They’re obviously hand picked for their caring traits by a leadership team that knows what their patients need.

Excellent experience of love and care from all employees - receptionists, psychologists, psychiatrists, cleaning staff, care coordinators and nursing staff. They foster community spirit that is healing too.25/10 from me.

If you are in the process of choosing a rehabilitation hospital for any type of orthopaedic surgery recovery I hope you take the time to read my lengthy review.

Smack bang in the middle of the NSW Covid peak I managed to suffer a severe leg injury. After surgery at a major Sydney hospital I was transported to Hirondelle Private Hospital to begin my long rehabilitation. And I'll explain why Hirondelle deserves this 5 Star Review.
Nestled in a leafy Chatswood street it looks like a lovely stately home, not at all like a hospital. So feeling a bit sore and sorry for myself, I was stretchered from the Ambulance into the hospital...and...Wow.... instantly I felt relief and knew that I was in the right place for my rehab. The staff immediately made me feel welcome and I could actually feel their care and concern for me.
A lovely single room with a leafy outlook was to be my home for the next 7 weeks and because no visitors possible due to Covid restrictions the staff quickly became my defacto family.
The care is second to none. A holistic approach that focuses on your entire health rather than just on your specific injury. A well equipped rehab gym with amazing physio professionals started me on my journey to learn to walk again. The kitchen staff provided a menu each day offering a choice of very nice food appropriate to each patient's dietary needs. Admin staff seamlessly took control of all the "paperwork" needed in dealing with health funds etc meaning one less thing to worry about. An individualised Care Plan is decided upon with full consultation and reviewed at regular intervals by your doctor and physio team. My doctor there was absolutely lovely and filled me with the confidence I was in safe hands.

I'm saving the best for last...the Nursing staff... Absolute Heroes...Angels in crepe soled shoes. Attentive, respectful, professional, caring ...I cannot thank them enough. I felt at peace in their care. Despite all the worries and challenges I felt around my injury, the Nurses allowed me to feel safe and concentrate on my recovery. I cannot praise them highly enough. If you or a loved one need to know that you are in the best possible hands during rehabilitation I can honestly attest you will not find a better place than Hirondelle.

If any staff read this just know that you not only helped me in my recovery, but you left me with a positive outlook for my future.
My injury was a life changing experience. I thought that change was going to be negative...and while I still have challenges ahead I realise that Hirondelle Nurses changed my life for the better. They made me feel safe.

The facility is hard to book in with little availability if you are trying to book week to week. They did not follow up and call back when they said they would. The head receptionist is also unpleasant to deal with (cuts you off, very confrontational and hypocritical) and should not be working in mental health. There are better places to go to get help and treatment.

Would not recommend for family / friends based on my experience. It is quite a new mental health hospital however there was little effort to give you an individual approach which is important as each patient is different. The program was run less as a Hospiral, and more as a school camp. The psychologists were quite inexperienced and even the student nurses were standing around with nothing to do for the entire day. If you advocated for your rights/ the majority of staff were invalidating / dismissive - which is quite harmful if you are vulnerable.

Attention: this is no longer a rehab hospital!! So a lot of these reviews are outdated. It is now a wonderful mental health hospital. I've just finished a five week stay and can't say enough about the staff, facilities and mood program. Hirondelle feels like a home rather than a hospital. I stayed at Gordon, Kellyville Private and Northside West in the past and have to say that Hirrondelle far surpasses them. Dr Lee was excellent and a shout out to Abi who went above and beyond on the ward. The patients I spoke to felt the same. Thank you Hirondelle from Sarah. (Dianne is my reviewer name).

Edited review: I've been to 2 other private psychiatric wards and this ward is the most restrictive I've been in. They handwrite all their notes so there can be miscommunication. I saw Dr Aly twice, for 5 minutes each time and was not listened to, not allowed cables or even dental floss in my room, and not given any unescorted leave.

I asked to change psychiatrists and was told I would see a new one on friday, at which point I had already done 1.5 of the 2 week program with no leave whatsoever, when that was all I really needed. I was told 4-5 times I'd be seen by the new psychiatrist on friday and he left and didn't see me.

The positives I can write is that the nursing, allied health, cleaning and cooking staff are all fantastic and deserve 5 stars. After a week I was able to see a new psychiatrist Dr Jayasingam who was much better, listened to me for longer, gave unescorted leave and an extension on my stay.
