I had a contraceptive device removed after 5 years, and I thought a women’s clinic would be a perfect, supportive place to have it removed. I’m sad that I was very wrong. Dr was immediately trying to encourage me into placing a new IUD as soon as she removed the current one after I repeatedly said I didn’t want one for XYZ.. she then told me ‘if you ever want to have a baby you need to get your BMI down, so you need to start exercising regularly - this will also help with your mental health’. She asked ‘will you be risky or safe’ with my partner of 3 years and treated me like I was a chubby kid in high school who didn’t know how babies were made… I’ve never been made to feel so belittled by a doctor in my 30 years, not even a male Dr. I’m so disappointed, this was an exciting day for me to ‘get my body back’ and to be lectured on weight loss and an exercise regime is presumptive and frankly rude. Dr also made a point to note my tattoos and gave me a good look up and down, a classic power move from a boomer generation Dr who believes a BMI is an accurate representation of good health. I assumed this clinic would be supportive and uplifting of women in all stages of life however it seems they judge you based on looks, weight, socioeconomic status etc.
won’t ever book with a clinic like this again - I’d rather pay hundreds at a private clinic. I’m really sad for women who have no option to go here and be made to feel like they know nothing about life / conception / body autonomy… I was in tears by the end explaining a history of eating disorders and my desire to restore hormone balance in my body. Left me feeling very depressed and hopeless.

The receptionist clearly needs some lessons in courtesy and professionalism.

If the first and last face of your business goes out their way to make you feel a burden, or worse (as I felt) there's an issue there that needs to be addressed!

Karen ignored me and answered the phone first, and then saw to another person behind me, while looking down her nose, and not communicating to me anything except contempt and judgement.

Several other ladies in the community have articulated similar things happening here. So it's well known, but they just don't care.

Every time I go there, the doctors are lovely and actually want to get to the bottom of my problems, unlike others who just don't care or are lazy with diagnosis like park beach family practice.
