I am pleased to write this review for Asal, whose work at Capital Pathology Dickson has been consistently outstanding. I have difficult veins, and blood draws are usually a challenge—but Asal was able to find the vein and complete the draw effortlessly on her first attempt. She did it in the blink of an eye, with skill and confidence that immediately put me at ease.

Although technicians do a good job, there is a problem with how they look after patients with appointments and those without them. There is a sign that says ā€œonly patients with appointments will be seen between 7-7:30 amā€. People who have made appointments for that period turn up after 8am yet they are still seen before anyone who arrived earlier. This is a criticism for those who get there after their appointment but also for the practice who should add to their policies ā€œif you arrive after your scheduled time, priority will be given to patients waiting.
The sign is confusing. The lady at the front desk could have easily told me, ā€œyou will be seen after all patients who have appointments are looked afterā€. Lesson learned? If you are coming to Capital Pathology Dickson, you must make an appointment.

3 Words:
Rude and Incompetent….

The second I entered the front doors I got absolutely screamed at as if it isn’t scary enough to get blood taken….

When I got up to the reception desk I brought my Medicare card and gave all of my details, they asked me to email them my referral which I did last week, they didn’t care and they wanted me to email it again? I then got screamed at because I brought my Medicare card up to the desk and so they yelled at me to sit down, 15 minutes later they asked to see my Medicare card… I was just praying that who I thought was this judgy receptionist would not be the person who would take my bloods and I was wrong

They assumed that I was transgender and so told me that they couldn’t do any of my test… I am not

They refused to take half of my tests because they assumed I was on hormones and so they could not do any of my tests… I am not

When I explained all of this they didn’t believe me…and still refused to take my tests until I literally showed them my birth certificate!

The lady asked me which arm I wanted it to be done, I clearly said left and so naturally she stabbed my right arm before I screamed in pain and said that I said that I wanted my left arm because my right arm is my dominant arm… and she didn’t believe that it was my dominant arm?!!

So when she finally stabbed my left arm, she stabbed me 8 times because she couldn’t find a vein- I have had hundreds of blood tests taken before and never had this issue before.

They took 20 viles of blood and then refused to allow me to sit in the waiting room because I told them I was feeling very dizzy…the waiting room was empty so I had to walk across the road only to sit on the bus bench for an hour before I felt I could stand up!

Halfway through taking my blood she started asking me about my sexual orientation, as if any of that was relevant when I was trying to figure out if my medicine was actually working

They started talking in another language to the other people working there and it was very very clear that they were all laughing at me because they were pointing at me as she was taking my blood

I saw all of these reviews and so I called every other Capital Pathology in Canberra who all said that this was the only place who could do my tests

Please do not ever go here!

Reviews don’t do this place justice. I was visiting from NSW and needed a place open Saturday morning for a blood test. Capital Path Dickson fit the bill. Arrived a few mins after 7.30AM opening time and there were about 5 people in front of me. Expecting a long wait, I was pleasantly surprised to be seen by a pathologist within 15 mins and out the door within 20. They must have had 3 pathologists working.
Receptionist was friendly and happily printed my referral that I only had in my email (not a physical copy). Pathologist was quick and friendly. Would definitely visit again if I need a blood test next time I’m in Canberra.

I went to Capital pathology Dickson and was waiting for more than an hour, with three still ahead. This was caused by walk-ins and bookings running simultaneously.

You cannot have a walk-in and booking system running at the same time. If people walk-in, book them in so they can manage their time. Otherwise, keep it a walk-in so people can manage their time by seeing how many people are ahead.

No Dr surgeries run walk-ins and bookings at the same time. It is one or the other.

I’ve been there a few times and today I took my little one there for the first time. A very young lady (I wish I had asked her name!) looked after him, and she was so kind, patient and professional. All my experiences there were positive, I can’t recommend them enough:)

Just had my Glucose test done and I couldn’t be more grateful to the staff there esp Taylor for her patience and gentle hands while drawing blood. She has hands of an angel and I have had bad experiences with needles before(caused bruising and sore) but Taylor completely changed my views on needles. I cannot thank you enough, Taylor. If your blood’s has to be drawn, ask for Taylor 😊
