A long story, made fairly short:
If we could turn back time, my partner would not have gone here for a procedure. Considering it was all covered out of our own pocket, the private care does not live up to the $ that's paid!!

Moreover, I'd highly recommend getting any quotes directly from the companies that will be supplying your procedure equipment (especially if you're an international patient and paying out of your own pocket).

The reason being, is that this hospital tried pulling the wool over our eyes and demanded (along with a debt collecting agency getting involved by them), that my partner pays an additional large sum for "further items used" during the procedure.

On a thorough investigation our end, turns out we were being charged hundreds of dollars extra, for an item that did not cost this much to order in. Along with other items also added on to the quote, that were not utilised by the patient during their stay.

Had we not been given the original quotes from the supplying companies, we'd have been expected to pay a larger sum for the item in question. Plus the other additional items that were not in the pre-estimation quote (although they were everyday essential items, that are used in all of the same type of procedure).

I'd hate to think how many more patients, may have been a victim to this by the private sector. During the most vulnerable and difficult times, people should not have to experience this additional stress and uncertainty.

To benefit from peoples' ill health, is disgusting! It would have been their word against ours and given that they are the 'bigger fish', we'd have had to repay a sum that wasn't even owed! Please don't be the next target and ensure you check your quotes and invoices thoroughly, before going ahead with demanded additional payments.

The private sector is a business, they do not care much for your health. Just their pockets! Thus, was definitely confirmed from this hospital! What proof do patients have with what was utilised during their procedures and stay. Especially when they are on medications that alter their consciousness and state of mind! Impossible for them to keep track of it all themselves and this is exploited on, clearly!

We've also been ignored when asked for the complaints department contact details to escalate this. No apologies even received from the hospital! I would not recommend this company and specific hospital. If I could give 0 stars, I would.

Unfortunately if your surgery and stay is self funded, then the quote amount you have been given is what you will end up paying. Stay for all the nights you pay for. They will try hard to get you to leave early, there is no refund, you are better off in hospital . I went home two nights early after a total hip replacement and suffered severely for three days, which in my opinion set my recovery back.
Multiple people came to my room telling me that I was going well and should go home. There was no chance of myself freezing to death in there as I don't believe that the air-conditioning was working, that would be a problem in the hotter months. There is no competition for them in Cairns, so self funded patients are clearly seen as cash cow's.

My husband was at the Cairns Private Hospital and as I couldn’t drive I had to get my girlfriend to take me go to pick him up the following morning which is a very silly idea and when it was time to check out they made us wait for about an hour and a bit plus the nurses were very rude.Why can’t you be like other normal hospital and allow the patient to take a taxi,all taxi rides are recorded by the taxi company.

Cairns Hospital is good but I must say I am impressed with Cairns Private Hospital. Had an overnight stay to have my gallbladder removed. I have been cared for very well by all staff from my admission to the lovely attentive nurses, pre surgery room, anesthetists and my surgeon. Quiet room to myself and the food was nutritious and very nice.

I have just spent 4 days in Cairns Private Hospital after spending a week in the Cairns public hospital. Both are great hospitals but the Private hospital was amazing. The nurses and staff of a very high standard. They were all so kind and attentive. The food was great (it was also great in the public hospital) The rooms were immaculately cleaned and the hospital is quiet and peaceful. My surgery went really well and my surgeon was wonderful. Very happy with my experience. Thank you
