Recently I utilized the services of Bodyfree and have to say it has been the best experience. Bianca from reception is on point for efficiency, both over the phone and via email, did not skip a beat, I did not have to chase for anything and she was always very pleasant to deal with.
My Surgeon was Dr Joseph, a no nonsense, tell you how it is Doctor. I knew what to expect at every part of the journey and although my interactions with him were very short and sweet, he showed empathy and you could tell he genuinely cared that my experience was a good one and all questions had been answered. Lastly, Dr Porter the anaesthetist, the last face I saw before my surgery, I was terrified inside but he was so calm and warm, had a little joke here and there and he really put me at ease providing me the re-assurance that he would take care of me during the surgery. I had the surgery a The Mater Hospital and they also were fantastic. I can see why BodyFree choose to partner with this Hospital.
Post surgery has also been fantastic, their Nutritionist, Dr Leader has been amazing answering all my questions and ensuring I am doing well. I went with the Private Health Insurance option and even that was pleasant, a fair Gap price and easy to navigate payment process and Bianca helped with all of that.
All in all, if I could rate my experience higher than a 5, I would. It has been such a great experience for something that is massively life changing. Thank You BodyFree Team !!

Had bypass mid-2023. Surgery went well, but my scars on my abdominal near my belly button are very visible (dark and long). A family member of mine had bypass through a different surgeon and they have no scars on their abdominal, as their surgeon did key hole through their belly button. This was not presented to me as being an option. I wish I did more research prior to proceeding with this practice. I also recall the receptionist was quite moody - kind some phone calls and very unhelpful the next (re. payment logistics through health insurance). Don’t rush into decisions, take your time and know your options.

I would really wish to rate this higher as based off of my consultation, as it was lovely to see Dr David Joseph and Natasha Leader but today I received a call that has completely changed my thoughts about continuing this process with Body Free because of how unpleasant my call was with one of the receptionists.

The call started with me stating that I might not be certain on my current date which is over 3 months away due to life circumstances. When I answered their call the receptionist was quick to ask me why I haven't confirmed my current surgery date, When at the time of my consultations the receptionists there advised me just to make sure to let the clinic know prior to the new year. She replied very abruptly and aggressively with "are you arguing with me" once replying calmly that was I was not she then proceeded to hang up the call not answer my calls after I attempted to dial the clinic back after this I was even sent an email stating that she will be cancelling my current surgery date, when I never said I wish to cancel at this stage.

I would really like to speak to the practice manager regarding this call.

I was ready to pay for my surgery and it was all booked. Unfortunately, the reception was so rude, dismissive and condescending whenever I would ask them a question or had dealings with them I decided to cancel and go elsewhere. After 3 or 4 dealings with them I thought to myself, there is no way I could put up with this attitude for two years of follow up appointments.
I have since found another surgeon and they are professional from reception right the way through.
I would think twice about Bodyfree.

I'd love to be able to give a better rating. But I've been completely let down and forgotten.
The surgery went well on November 2nd 2024, I have no drama there. The recovery was horrendous. I tried and tried to speak with Dr Joseph but he was never available. Scheduled appointments were missed and he hung up after a 7 minute consult promising to call back the following day. Natasha Leader was most unhelpful as well. I told her how much of a struggle I was going through and got a 1 word email in reply "Yogurt". That was her recommendation.
Both my sister, who is my power of attorney and myself tried to contact the clinic all through December 23 and Jan 24. I was so desperately ill and had been hospitalised many times, but still no response from Dr Joseph. It was only after my second suicide attempt in late January when I was admitted to a psychiatric unit that the good Dr finally responded... not to me though, only too the ward psychiatrist. My weight loss was absoutely minimal, 6kg in 2 months. The receptionist Bianca spoke to my sister and told her that I could ring and speak to her... but she couldn't really help as she wasn't a nurse.
I paid the extra for after care and have had 1 full length call, which I was told I obviously had really bad dumping and it was due to my diet (Yogurt).
I lost my job because I couldn't work for 4 months.
Ask me if I've had any further after care...I haven't. Not a call, message, email... absoute silence.

I wouldn't recommend this clinic. The surgery was painless... but the rest of the experience was horrendous.

I first came to see Dr Joseph on the recommendation from a good friend.
The care, support & professionalism from Dr Joseph, Heather & Bianca has been, and continues to be nothing short of incredible.
Along with additional help from Natasha Leader as my dietician, my goals have been achievable.
Nothing has ever been too much trouble for David or his team - they've been genuinely interested in my progress and the aftercare is impeccable.
If I could give more than 5 stars, I wouldn't hesitate.
