Avoid if possible. Psychiatrists that I have had the misfortune of meeting need to improve their skills, firstly by listening to the patient or their full time carer(not so much when they are psychotic or recovering) due to delirium, which unfortunately they do not recognize, but when the patient has recovered or is lucid. My daughter has had several delirious episodes due to medication and medication alone. Surprisingly they listen to someone who is not in their right mind and ignore them when they are lucid and not affected. When the medication that caused delirium is removed, my daughter gradually recovers and becomes herself again. She does not normally have an IQ lower than 70 and behaves like a small child. This is beyond their understanding and they re-instate the medication which does nothing positive for her mental health and down the track we have to deal with another episode of delirium where the medication is removed and she recovers. Documents obtained via freedom of information is covered in lies, obviously to cover themselves from future litigation. Very disappointing service. They also expect that an elderly carer is able to own her own somehow manage to get the delirious person who is in acute psychosis in for a consult. When they cannot do this and are unable to make a scheduled appointment, they write nonsense in the file like" refused to attend". How about listening to the Royal Commission and taking note and acting on their recommendations. They even have the audacity to convince someone delirious that they should not get help and should avoid those that help them. It is shocking no wonder there are so many deaths of the mentally ill and those with delirium
