I wish I’d been able to pursue the aged care inquiry with complaints against this centre but I felt so depleted following my mother’s passing. She was in the care of this centre for 4 years. There are too many incidents to report here but the care she received was appalling. I witnessed verbal abuse from staff (I was outside the room and the staff didn’t know I was there) but my mum was too frightened and wouldnt let me make a formal complaint, she was left for hours on the toilet and then they complained about her yelling and they started to over medicate her to keep her quiet, they dropped her while moving her in a lifter and she was bruised all over yet they refused to let me view the incident report. I made written complaints direct to the Council who dismissed me. Poor Mum. I tried to convince her to move but she’d made friends there and didn’t want the change. I’ll never forgive this aged care home. I fought hard with them and their doctors. Wish I could have done more.

I recently was a student there and saw everything myself behind closed doors where patients get abused and assaulted. There are too many incidents to recall, but at one point I was in the dementia ward and came to the realisation that the nurse assistants take advantage of these patients as they do not recall abuse and violence in order to complain about it, I witnessed an older dementia patient get punched on the arm and yelled at, he was in a state of shock and started to yell as he was hurt and alarmed.

Very caring staff greeted us at the Gillawarna Village. It's a lovely setting with landscaped gardens, shared recreational areas and peaceful individual rooms. We couldn't have asked for more.

Mum has been at Chester Hill Village for about 4 years now.She needs higher care now due to her age and having falls.Due to her family living outside the area now Mum wants to be closer to us.The staff have been so wonderful to her.The other residents of the nursing home are so lovely and caring to each other. It's just like a big family. We would highly recommend Chester Hill Village to anyone seeking a Nursing Home for there elderly loved ones.
