My partner was admitted to JHH on 4 November with life-threatening injuries. His care in Emergency, the ICU and eventually a standard ward was extraordinary. Compassion, excellence in clinical care and despite the frantic pace and workload (which was apparent every day I was there) staff stayed calm and focused. Feeling very blessed for this excellent facility to be available to me as a Hunter resident.

From start to finish my care was superb. The team at CCU and G3 was of the highest quality. My parents had tears of gratitude to the wonderful doctors and nurses where would we be without them

I've had all 3 of my sons here, 2 of which I gave birth at 16wks, my nurses for my 2 missed miscarriages were the sweetest and most caring people. Our social worker was the same despite my first born in 2017 and my last loss in 2022. I'm high risk pregnancy due to my genetic disorder that is fatal to males. With my rainbow in 2019 it had to be a c-section due to vast previa, but again a wonderful experience and extremely helpful, yes my husband couldn't stay with me over night but I shared a room with 4 other ladies. It was restless nights and the checked on me in the morning, one nurse was concerned and let my hubby know that I struggled that night, she was trying to let me know that bottle fed would be okay and that I needed to not be so harsh to myself for not being able to breastfeed, due to a few issues I wish I just listened. Anyway, everyone has different experiences but i wanted to share all 3 of mine.... for me they helped so much for each one of my boys.

Sorry to say my dislike to public hospitals hadn't changed. The only thing I like was the car park until I found out I could of had a discount but it was sort of easy to get in and out. Even it was a maze getting out of the hospital itself. Even I HATE the mater hospital at mayfield after experiencing the Hunter I rather sydney

Never seen so many staff sitting around at the cafeteria and eating. I just go to Sydney where everyone seems to move with purpose.

One night I needed stitches. Was asleep alone in the ER waiting room from 11-5am when a cleaner thought it time they wake me up with a mop to the foot. Waited another 4 hours alone for the morning staff to arrive and took 10 minutes. Should have driven to Sydney would have been faster.

On Tuesday 12/11/24 I have appointment with my GP because the pain in my back and leg is still there from three weeks before when I get sharp pain and burning on my lower back like never before which I struggle from 1989 but never been so bad.
On the way to the doctor from Lambton to Cardiff I need to stop the car three times because the pain start to worsen and I felt numbness on my left leg. When I went to the doctor I told the receptionist I can’t seat this is my worse enemy and she told me to go to the treatment room to lay down and wait for the doctor but the nurse come straight away and stay with me checking my blood pressure and at once something Harvey stabbed me on the back and I lost it. I am not shore what happened. They call my husband, the doctor come and other doctor my husband told me and went and bought Endone which didn’t work and decided to call ambulance which come after 4 phone calls from the nurse. They give me morphine and stop for not long and give me again and took me to John Hunter. Paramedics was wonderful they look after me didn’t let me to be in pain but after two hours I am not shore was a nurse or she come and was t polite at all told me to seat on the chair which this is not good position for me but I thought she will take me to a bad but not outside in waiting room. Lucky the paramedics give me more morphine when I seat on the chain and I wasn’t so bad but not on this chair. I went with my husband in change room for kids and stayed there for two hours and I start to feel the pain i s coming and I went to ask how long more I have to wait and they said not shore. They call nurse because I told them I want to go home because I don’t want people their steering me if I scream from pain. She told me she can give me one Endone and I told her this want work I am 100% shore I know my body and my self. I don’t like medication but when I can’t handle it I have to take them. She told me to seat and see how I go and she can give me inflammation injections. I thank her but I told her I can’t seat if you don’t have a bad please remove the needle or I will do it my self a can’t wait on the chair. The stuff was very polite I can’t say anything bad, only the lady who took me outside was not polite at all.
I hope something will change. Today is 14/11/24 two days after that the pain is still very bad.

Went in on Tuesday 06/08/2024 as my 7 month old baby was poorly and now has been diagnosed with pneumonia as of today. On Tuesday we waited 4 hours in emergency and got into The paediatric ward to finally be seen by a doctor. The male doctor dismissed my child as he was laughing and smiling and thought that he had a post viral infection, did swaps and left it at that. Today we went back as things have not been improving and has progressively gotten worse. The swaps they did on Tuesday did not cover anything other than viral infections. My son who was seen today by the most lovely staff I’ve ever seen were so calm and patient into making sure that we left satisfied and with answers. If that male paediatric Doctor from Tuesday is reading this or any staff that is working with children please listen to mothers and parents as they know their child best. If we are saying a child is sick please ensure that you do everything under the sun including every tests to help prevent stuff like this from happening. If I had left it another week my child would’ve died. Again if a mother is saying her child is sick whether they are laughing and smiling or not do the necessary thing and take every precaution into making sure that parents are seen and heard. We know our children better than anyone else. So please
Listen to us.

My husband and I went here yesterday to visit our niece, we were absolutely disgusted in the cleanliness of this hospital. As cleaners ourselves this is an embarrassment to Newcastle. Everywhere we looked it was dirty, even the tables at a cafe were filthy, the floor you stuck to, and the bins, wow just gross. The toilets are a whole new ball game. Whoever is in charge of the hospital cleanliness shouldn’t have a job. It’s no wonder people leave here with an infection. I’m sorry but it’s disgusting.
