My names Patrick Gilbert, I suffer from various mental disturbances labeled as adhd, bipolar, psychosis etc so I need assistance with living. I’m an artist (painter, musician, actor, dancer etc). I experienced a 2 week respite with Universal Care (this company) while my mum was in WA visiting her grand children, my nephews.

Let me just say; that as a born and raised South Australian I was looked after extremely well by an array of beautiful African carers and one Iranian woman who took shifts, one on one. I won’t name names as I don’t know wether that’s appropriate or not but I had a very pleasant, wholesome, cultural and even spiritual experience while under their care with many golden moments.

I’m a Christian and I believe Christian values make for a good base to one’s character and Africans are predominantly Christian in faith so it was perfect but even if you’re not Christian they’re just good decent people who cared for me when needed and gave me space accordingly.

I did two paintings and filled half a big art book of sketches while under their care. I even cried when I had to say goodbye because I form deep connections with people very easily so it was sad to say goodbye. They helped me cook meals, go to the jetty, they drove me to recording sessions for my Spotify etc so definitely a 5 star experience, I rate em straight up. Thanks crew, you’re awesome
