My experiences with the Vision Eye Institute Mackay - Ophthalmic Clinic.
The front counter is very organised checking patients in, further bookings and finalising payments and paper work. Very busy clinic.
The nurses are very thorough following the process, so that all the necessary examination and information is available for Doctor Horak. Extremely streamline process in place for the nurses.
Doctor Horak puts patient at ease with is examination and his assessments. Your eye sight is incredibly delicate and it's reassuring to have a doctor who puts patient's at ease with a twist of humor and instills confidence with his procedures for the operation.

My mum is a patient of Vision Eye Institute Mackay. I often take her to and from her appointment as she cannot drive after the procedure. She normally has a good experience, but the most recent visit was poor. The regular procedure for my mum is to go to the nearby pharmacy to pick up the medication required for her eye procedure prior to attending her appointment. We arrived at the pharmacy this morning to be told they are no longer providing the medication to patients of Vision Eye Institute Mackay, as it has been outsourced to Brisbane. Mum hadn't received any correspondence about this change. So we got back in the car and went to Vision Eye Institute Mackay. Mum's appointment was scheduled for 8:15am. At 8:20am we were still waiting outside as the business still hadn't opened. The doors opened soon after 8:20am and we were served at the front counter. When my mum mentioned that her appointment was at 8:15am, the woman serving us laughed at said "oh, I wouldn't stress about that, the doctor isn't even here yet". Then when mum asked about the change of process in obtaining the medication prior to the appointment, the woman flippantly said that mum should have received a phone call earlier in the week. She didn't. Then the woman said "oh well we must still have enough medication left over from your last appointment". Mum mentioned that it still would've been nice to have been contacted by Vision Eye Institute Mackay about the change of procedure. Then the woman palmed off any responsibility and said they sent letters to all patients in the mail and it wasn't HER decision to change the process. Long story short, I found it really disappointing to see them booking appointments at times before the business even opens, leaving elderly clients standing up waiting outside for the place to open. Not notifying people of important changes, causing confusion and frustration. Not once did anyone say 'sorry to keep you waiting' , or 'sorry for the confusion about the change of process' . Really disappointing.

Very Poor experience, my Son saw Dr Boots on the 7th of November, advised that a malignant mass was uncover in his brain and would have to be referred to s specialist. It's now the 13th of December and today we find out that this Dr still has not completed the appropriate referral. I seriously hope this is not a time sensitive matter that requires immediate medical attention!!!

Thumbs down for me. First time was no problems then second time his assistant kept putting the drops in too quickly. I felt the first needle in my right eye and the second eye bled afterwards. It bled for 3 days. I will not be going back again. The admin was not submitting my Medicare Claims correctly and I was out of pocket.
