Dr Hamer and his team have been nothing short of exceptional from the moment I first walked in the door.
They have made me feel so very comfortable with my decision to have my gastric sleeve, on the day of surgery he ensured I was still comfortable with my decision and understood the process.
Then coming to visit me on the ward post-op and again the following morning.

I sadly had a terrible encounter with Dr Peter Hamer on Sunday 25/05 I was as admitted through Gosford emergency the day before for infections in my legs. This Dr came in on Sunday looked at my legs, asked what happened spent a total of 2 minutes talking to me, I explained that the infections are from an anti emetic drug that I have 3 times a day to stop nausea and vomiting. I have been on this drug for about 5 years and it is the only drug that works. His response to that was “we are stopping that now” I said “ no you can’t do that, if you stop it I will have discharge and go home.” There was absolutely no reason to stop the drug in hospital as it was being given IV causing no damage at all. So when I tried to respond his response was “ if she is under me no medication otherwise get rid of her to gastro.” His manner was aggressive, and his tone was loud and this was said in front of his registrar and intern. Why would you not spend 5 minutes to get to know me, my caring responsibilities, my history, why this drug is needed ? It took a lot of organising to go to hospital for desperately needed iv antibiotics, only for me to be spoken to like a 2 year old. If this is what we accept in our doctors bedside manner, we have serious work to still do in the training of young doctors. So I did go home after that encounter, I am full of infection and I have no where to go. Today is Thursday 29/05 what happens now? Was I an inconvenience, was it because I have no health insurance, was it because I am a woman? I will never know. After 10 years of fighting my disease, i came home in an extremely disheartened mindset. Thank you Dr Hamer you did that.

My gastric sleeve surgery couldn't have gone any better, Dr Hamer has done a great job. I highly recommend Peter Hamer to everyone thinking of getting this procedure done. I can't fault my experience with Dr Hamer and his team. My initial appointment was informative, professional, honest and to the point whilst maintaining a sense of care and compassion at a vulnerable point. The reception team Liz and Fiona are exceptional, communication with them is quick and easy, and they're both extremely kind and helpful. Dietician Sara is fantastic and took the time to answer all of my questions thoroughly and professionally. And lastly, Dr Hamer and his surgical team made my time in hospital so comfortable and easy, taking the time to check in with me and talk me through everything. He even took the time to call my mum after the procedure to let her know how I was doing which I really appreciate. Would highly recommend this team to anyone considering bariatric surgery.

I can not recommend Dr Hamer enough. From my initial appointment I knew I had found the right surgeon. Dr Hamer explained everything I needed to know, was caring and understanding throughout the whole process. I had my surgery during Covid my wife was not able to come to the hospital to visit or even to wait while I went into surgery. Dr Hamer personally called her after I had come out of the surgery to update her and alleviate any worry that she had. All follow up appointments were scheduled by the highly organised team of receptionists. Megan, my dietician was amazing, always so encouraging and available to help with any diet issues I had. I am now one year post op and couldn’t be happier with my results. I am healthier, happier and most importantly I feel better in my body. I lost 56kgs and I am still going.
