DO NOT GO THERE! Terrible service and poor advice.

I completed the patient information form as requested, and dropped a hard copy to the travel doctor at Lena karmel Lodge in Canberra a couple of days ahead of my appointment. I was assured the personal and sensitive information I provided would be appropriately handled and attached to my file. On arrival at my appointment, I was told they could not find my information and they had no idea where it was. After providing the information again, I attended the appointment and was given poor advice.

The cost of this place is exorbitant— they are more interested in upselling unnecessary vaccinations/products than genuine client care—and they are SLOW. To top it off, they are one of the few places in Australia that can’t process Medicare rebates. Did I say, ‘DO NOT GO THERE’?

They are always inexplicably late and slow. We usually wait 30 minutes from our appointment time before being called to wait in another area for 15 minutes while they prepare the vaccines. Also had a bad experience twice with a new nurse.

I visited multiple times for various vaccinations. Definitely would describe the staff there as the B team. Dr I dealt with was good, but have to give it one star as the nurses seemed to struggle. Confused about what vaccines they were administering, not knowing the basics about side effects and not giving any advice about an oral vaccine. Shocking to think this is what they’re doing day in day out.

Great experience. Staff were really friendly and the doctor was thorough. Had to wait quite a while but the clinic was pretty busy. Nurses are so kind. I was offered a cup of tea and a biscuit because I had to wait which was really nice. It’s expensive, but looking at the receipt, it’s the vaccines not the doctor fees. I guess there’s nothing much you can do about how much the vaccines cost. Highly recommend. Parking is tricky in the city though, so plan extra time for that.

I will be upfront, I did not attend the clinic as the time they had available did not suit our urgent needs, however I can not speak more highly of the service I still received.
I enquired online, got a response within an hour or so and when they recognised quickly that their time availabilities were not likely to suit me, they wen ton to provide me so much advice on alternate options in Canberra for getting vaccinations for my daughters upcoming trip to Kenya. I commend them on their service in a situation when it was clearly likely they were not going to provide me with the needed Dr appointment and care. Well done and thank you, you really helped us out in an urgent situation that was starting to cause me some stress, and you eased it. Thank you again!

I had a wonderful experience. The appointment was on time and the doctor comprehensively covered all aspects of my forthcoming trip to 10 destinations. The travel pack that was offered and, of course I accepted, is a great tool for all sorts of emergencies and prevention. No way a GP could do a similar job! Very impressed and grateful 🙂

Terrible experience today - waiting 25 minutes for a 30 second appointment with the Dr and no apology for running so late. Finally got my vaccination then another 10 minute delay whilst they put my bill together. Costs were overcharged which I had to dispute and they reduced them. Nurses and reception staff were great but poor systems, poor communication and a Dr that doesn't respect others time really lets them down.

Me and my partner had a long consultation with a doctor (Dr Mark .. ) about travel health safety and vaccinations then were given our vaccinations by a nurse.

Our doctor was friendly, knowledge, informative, and properly listened to our questions and made us feel more equipped to travel.

Our nurse was friendly and funny and the needles we were given were nearly painless.

All up it was quite expensive - $385 for 4 vaccinations, a travel safety kit with things like emergency antibiotics, and a doctors consultation. Ask the receptionist before booking on prices if you are on a budget. Also make sure you allow 2 hours for a consultation and vaccinations.
