I recently had 2 major surgeries at POW Private, I needed a lot of care due to the significant pain I was experiencing. The nurses in Ward North were fantastic. I was so grateful to be in their care. They demonstrated empathy to my condition, and they always tended to me with a smile. Their professionalism and efficiency was 10/10. I’m very appreciative to the nursing team’s kindness and support.

I travelled all the way from Perth to have my surgery done by a specific surgeon and to my dismay, the hospital experince was not great at all. The nurses were cold and rude. I was told my husband could come in to get me after I was taken to the ward. However, after literally 10 minutes of being there, the nurse received a call and I don't know what was said to her. She immediately came to me and asked me to get dressed and that I could wait in the waiting area to be picked up. She literally was standing on top of me all the time and rushing me to get dressed although I was not even fully over the anesthesia.
Please treat your patients with empathy and kindness. They are there for a reason.

I cannot speak highly enough of the maternity staff at POWP. Every single midwife I experienced was caring, reassuring and professional. I felt so seen and supported! To say nothing of the specialists, who are all in another league. Forever appreciate this was my experience; I cannot thank the team enough!

I had a recent surgery at the Prince of Wales Private Hospital close to 2 months ago and certainly wont be returning or would recommend this hospital as a private patient.

I paid close to $8,500.00 for a laparoscopy procedure, which at the time was given the invoice with the correct breakdown figures. Now close to 8 weeks later, I've received a $1,300 separate invoice for disposables! or to put it ''this total wasn't added to the final invoice''

This hospital is a RIP OFF when it comes to prices and the ''quality'' care provided is nothing exceptional/ or different then the public hospital.

I was given attitude by one of the nurses in recovery for accidently placing toilet paper in the toilet as she was measuring the amount of urine - never mind the fact I was bleeding, in pain and was still coming around off the anesthetic but that didn't matter.

The other nurse, couldn't seem to get home quick enough and was on her phone multiple times and kept asking
''how far away is your husband''

Even when i was picked up, I was expected to walk to the other side of the car park with no assistance or wheelchair offered even with internal stitches.

Not the level of the service i would expect for patients paying thousands of dollars!

Pre-Surgery. Great. Well organised. Nice, competent staff. It felt well looked after. Five stars

Recovery after the surgery. Big room for improvement: 1 Star
- You wake up to loud chatter and laughter from staff in the recovery room. Recovery shouldn't be the social club room for staff.
- No visitor policy in the day ward should mean either no visitors for nobody or visitors for all. Recovering right next to a roudy group of visitors while your visitor has to wait outside doesn't feel great.
- Don't mix people recovering from surgery with people waiting for their op. This way, you mix people who are reasonably pain-free, loud and nervous with people who are quiet, unwell and in pain. Create two different areas.
- Don't treat patients coming out of surgery as if they had a day in the spa, and should be happy to go home any time.
- Don't push people out. Give them the time they need to recover. Procedures are different. Bodies are different. Ages are different.
- Don't have staff tell patients that their bed is needed and hence they need to leave within hours of surgery, when the ward is almost empty.
- Don't treat patients like bodies that must be pushed through the pipeline at the fastest possible pace. I understand that you run a business and need to keep things moving. But have some compassion.

Advise to fellow patients:
- If you have a big operation but agree to a day procedure, make sure your doctor asks the hospital to give you more time. Otherwise, you don't get the day, but about three hours. You will have to plead for every extra hour. I felt like dying (I knew I wasn't, but it certainly felt like it), and was told why I don't just get dressed, take some Panadol and wait in the 'lounge' - when I barely could keep my eyes open, couldn't move and was about to throw up.
- Ask your doctor to come and see you a few hours after the operation. Otherwise, they won't, and you will have little idea what really happened to you during the surgery.

Five + One = Six
Six / 2 = 3
Hence three stars

Having been in several hospitals over the years, I have nothing but praise for all involved with my experience. I stayed 2 nights after my surgery, I believe I was exceptionally well looked after. The food was also very good.
