I’ve been here many years back, it was a great clinic. I just randomly found them on a local search/google and was pleasantly surprised how helpful they were. There was a rehabilitative component to their programs. They can also assist with medication, resources, applying for ssi, job finding and housing. I was recommending a friend to them and wanted to stop by to give a quick shout out. I hope they continue to thrive. Many thanks and love /light 🙂

Portals staff always make you feel comfortable and relaxed. The new location is it a good area near Koreatown in LA right off of Wilshire. Not sure of the ZIP code or the hours I do know it's Monday through Friday.

Warning: if you are Trans do not go to this clinic or this Doctor.

As the receptionist is walking me into her office she says to him, “Is he or she ready?”

I was right there and overheard her say this. It started to bring up a lot of emotions for me and I felt like I needed to ask her why she said this because I’ve seen her before and I’ve told her I identify as ftm trans man he/him.

She then became defensive, saying that in my file it says “Dylan Barnes AKA Erica Barnes”, which I asked the clinic to remove a long time ago with legal proof of my name change to Dylan.

She then told me she couldn’t remember me, and that she sees 100′s of patients.

In an assertive but not aggressive way I asked her if she had written down what I identified as in her file. She said she had written down “he” and “ftm”. I asked her why she did not go over the file before seeing me for the second time today, and again she had a defensive statement to say to me.

I told her that the excuses were bothering me and all she had to say was sorry, she then says “I did say sorry”. However, I don’t remember her saying that in the first place and I didn’t need her excuses.

She then told me she felt uncomfortable with me and she invited the receptionist into our meeting. I explained why I was upset to the receptionist who sat there like a deer in headlights and literally didn’t say anything.

Then the psychiatrist continued to interrogate me about how I was getting my medication in the last few months and I told her that I had refills at CVS and I have been taking the same medication for years and that I just need to stay on the dose that I am at, that things haven’t changed.

After her asking me question after question in a very unprofessional way, I decided to say “I feel that I am being treated very poorly and I am going to leave now”. I politely walked out of the office and will never be returning to this clinic again.

To some this interaction may seem benign or small, but I am already going through a lot right now and this just put the icing on the cake. I don’t need to be discriminated against by my psychiatrist, by a person who is providing me medication and a person that I am supposed to trust.

I don’t deserve to be invalidated for the way I feel or for feeling upset when someone can’t review their file for a minute of their time to remember my preferred gender pronoun. I don’t deserve to feel like a criminal or aggressive or making someone uncomfortable or like I have done something wrong for expressing the way something frustrates me or makes me feel.

The End. If you are Trans never go see Dr. Juarez, and don’t go to this clinic.
