I haven't even checked in yet and I'm very unhappy with this entire process that has me scrambling to meet SJOG's sudden requirements, anxious about the entire process, and overall unsure about what to expect.

My appointment was booked weeks ago, and then Thursday midday I get a call saying I have to fill out more forms. I was given such minimal notice and at such an inconvenient time (as I was told that it needed to be done that day and I was about to head inland) that I had to pull over on the side of the road somewhere that I could find reception, and do it on my phone.

I also spoke to two people on that phone call, as I tried to complete it on the phone, but it turns out I could not, and then the information I was given about completing the 'mandatory' online form was not only contradictory, but incorrect in the end it turns out.

Eventually I managed to complete the online form, but had to add multiple notes stating that information is not fully accurate nor complete as I did not have all the required information with me - as I was told I would not need it.

I've only received that one call from SJOG Bunbury in total, and the rest has been SMS directing me to the online system, which really lacks much information at all.

There are multiple questions I have, since I've been given such little information, but there is no visible guidance around this and so I'm just going to wing it, and expect that given this lack of a human element, and apparent disorganisation, that this expensive diagnostic appointment is likely going to be of minimal or no use.

Should anything end up above 2 stars in outcome, I'll update this review, but I can only assume that I'll have to book this again and go up to Perth to attend a more organised hospital with better staffing and communication. I'm not giving it only 1 star, since I've not attended yet and their staff may be friendly or similar.

UPDATE: Having now attended, I have downgraded my rating to 1-star. I provided the reception staff feedback (nicely and constructively of course) on the check-in process, and before checking out I provided the team I was working with feedback on how appalling the rooms were. I would not recommend an overnight stay at this hospital, even in a private room, if you ever have to.

Quick summary: limited desk space to sit at - approximately the size of a stable table, broken light in the room, no food provided, old poor quality TVs, noises all night long, inch gap under the doors so you cannot get a dark room, pillows as flat as a paver, mattress stiff enough that my back still hurts a day and a half later.

As usual slow service, no one knows how long you wll be waiting, staff seem annoyed if you ask questions, mountains of unnecessary paperwork. Seems to be many staff standing around talking ignoring anything else. Complete lack of urgency. Twice ive been here, once for myself where i walked out after 5 hours waiting still in pain and once with my mother who had some chemicals in her eye. The days of good hospital care at SJOG are gone.

I had my first major operation this week, and I cannot fault the nurses and doctors care throughout my stay. Regular checking if I’m in any pain, uncomfortable or feeling ill. The level of care and compassion given has been well over expectations. Being a catholic/christian private hospital, I was offered any religious care, and was not pressured to accept. They didn’t treat me any differently to those within the faith and I felt listened to and respected. The level of care towards my family and communication with them while I was in recovery was quick and unprompted, giving me comfort in knowing that my parents were aware that the surgery went well and according to plans.
I honestly cannot recommend them enough.
