Mental health services in this state are not designed with anyone's care in mind. Together, they are a symbiotic monster that's evolved by some corrupt means into something that resembles a service. Approach with caution. You can find what you need here if you know how to play the game but never turn your back on a monster.

My stay in Cumberland Hospital was mostly chaotic, I was one of many patients at the hospital that was attacked by a bully.

The staff do nothing to put a stop to the bullying, the chaotic violent patient is not put into isolation permanently, but instead is let out and continues to verbally and physically abuse other patients.

I feel so much rage towards the bully, I would like to unleash all my rage and destroy the bully, but I do not need to, the bully will destroy itself and the best revenge is for me to live a good life.

I was one of the lucky ones, a family member came to Cumberland Hospital and gave me protection from the bully and made sure to get me discharged from Cumberland Hospital.

I do worry about the patients who are good and kind and trapped in hospital with a sociopath. I hope they get discharged and are safe and free.

I was a voluntary patient and put myself into Cumberland Hospital, I reached out for help, and needed to be put on the right medication to stabilize my mood and to cure my insomnia so I can sleep calmly, but instead I get punched in the face by a insane patient.

There are pregnant nurses who work at Cumberland Hospital, I hope they are safe and their babies are safe and not get attacked by insane patients.

I was worried and afraid about writing this review, it has been 6 months being out of Cumberland Hospital and I am still haunted by what happen to me but I am slowing healing and forgetting about the lunatic and putting the lunatic in the passed where the lunatic belongs.

I am a kind gentle peaceful person and there are many kind gentle peaceful patients who are in Cumberland Hospital who only want to feel safe and protected and to be able to leave Cumberland Hospital feeling better not worse and to be cured and free.

Thank you for reading my review, I will post and keep this review, I have written so many reviews and deleted them. I was afraid the bully will find me and try to attack me again, but I need to be brave. I will keep this review and I hope this review will make some good changes happen.

My mum had been in and out of Cumberland for numerous years.
Police would arrest her and drop her off there under the Mental Health Act.
This place locks you up and sedates you until you're barely human.
My mum died 2 weeks ago, after being released from Cumberland.
Cumberland, you need to be help accountable for your negligence.

I didn’t trust the 1 star reviews and sent a family member there hoping to cure and fix insomnia.
Please do not make the same mistakes as I did and don’t send ANYONE you love here.

Was talked to like someone who had committed a crime.
Ignored by nurses- rude nurses shrugged you off or simply ignored you.
Mental health support such as counselling or psychologist wasn’t provided at all in the 1 week stay. Was instead put on drugs (antidepressants and strong sleeping medication that had nasty and long lasting side effects)- antidepressant didn’t work at all because it wasn’t depression in the first place causing insomnia.
Went in voluntarily, but made to stay involuntary. Even when mental health got so much worse inside the hospital.
Was not allowed to go outside for a walk or fresh air.
The experience was much worse than jail. Left with much more problems and PTSD than before.
Avoid at all cost!

I had done no self harm for 6 years however had issues to deal with. I was teferred to Riverview as a place to monitor and adjust my medication and do blood tests to see whether there were any deficiency’s. I believed I admitted my self voluntarily however the assessing doctor put it as involuntarily. I entered that place without a scratch and come out with a self inflicted bite mark (due to emotional pain) which needed skin grafting and slits in my hand which never got attention of any sort. Couple of the nurses are nice but the rest are trash.

Excellent nursing staff but very poorly staffed with qualified doctors at critical times and limited approach with little attempt made to provide dietary support to correlate with an appropriate diet provision that supplements mental health treatment and recovery. Poorly cleaned and requiring significant upgrade of comfortable bedding, temperature control, room for patients to exercise and incorporate a wholistic approach to recovery. No induction provided to patients about location of essential facilities and poor provision of treatment plans and communication with patients and families in treatment plans.

Staff were all wonderful and did their best despite working with limited resources. SHAME on our government for failing to adequately fund mental health care.

It’s actually worth paying to go to a private specialist. I found a private specialist in Lane Cove who often sees me through Telehealth appointments and made a huge improvement for my health. I was even shocked when the doctor I had sessions with at Cumberland had numerous reprimands with The Medical Board. The staff also kept involving my father in my care - despite the fact my husband is my next of kin and that I wanted my father out of my health care. My husband encouraged me to withdraw from Cumberland’s services as I was getting worst, not better. The staff at Cumberland are inexperienced and simply wasted my time.
