I had a great experience from pregnancy to birth.

ALLY, RN, Blacktown Hospital, who is currently in training to become a Midwife, followed my journey as a case study and for her learning, throughout my pregnancy and to the point of c-section under GA. Ally provided the best care to her current training, to the superior excellence of even deciding to do a double shift to be there with me during my birthing stage, and even held my hand in the theatre room. I want to praise Ally of her excellence in care towards me and I believe she will become a very cherished professional midwife one day.

We had to return to the hospital as my child ended up getting a flu. We returned to the emergency ward and got in within 5 min of arriving, which is good under the public system. I’d like to praise a midwife named GIORGIA, on Level 8, Children’s Ward. She went above and beyond and outshone her fellow colleagues. Giorgia stated she had only been working there 1.5 years. Giorgia went above and beyond in her care by means of constantly checking on me as the mother and my child, teaching us how to bath our child (which she didn’t have to do), she would do what she said she was going to do and met timings.

What I found in recovery where you look after your newborn for the first time, on the lower levels, I think level 6? was where most of the midwives would say “I’ll be back in 10min”. 99% of the time they wouldn’t return for an hour or would totally forget. Now as a new mum, learning to breastfeed and they say to start feeding on on side for 10 min and “they’ll return” to help and see if I did it properly, but never return leaving me to my own device was pretty poor. I ended up with severe nipple damage from that and had to use Paw Paw ointment which was the only thing that recovered my nipples. The Lanolin they give you doesn’t work trust me.

One senior midwife on this level named CATHY, was the only one who caught on my child has tongue tie and that’s the reason for the nipples becoming damaged. If it wasn’t for that one midwife, I wouldn’t have known that information and probably would have continued feeding without a shield.

The assessment rooms were clean and spacious, the birthing room was huge! And really nice with the wall paper print bringing it to life a bit. The recovery rooms were super spacious and I had my own room in recovery with baby. It felt like I was in the private system not public, as I’ve heard other hospitals you have to share with other people and blood in shared bathrooms etc just gross, so this was like staying in a hotel.

I chose Blacktown hospital over Westmead because it’s small, quiet and not that’s busy.

Only downfall is, is for example, when you have a UTI for baby to be checked in the lab, they actually have to send it to Westmead hospital to conduct such testing, resulting in taking more time (travel time etc).

The birth of my child was pretty traumatic as I had two failed epidurals. Not to the fault of Daniel the anaesthetist, as my body just didn’t want to work it properly. I was numb my entire legs and left side but right side failed thus feeling excruciating contractions that were so unbearable I wanted to just die. I couldn’t move to get relief which made it worse for me.

As a result, I had to have a c-section under GA, as another attempt of epidural may have failed and I didn’t want to risk feeling the pain of a c-section.

Daniel was very caring and concerned and was quick acting to try to rectify my issue. He did his best and I thank him for that. In the end, I feel he made the right decisions to fix the issues.

I originally wanted a natural birth, but sometimes things don’t go our way and we have to listen to the professionals to get the best result for our child. As a result of everything occurring, I have a beautiful healthy child now at home thanks to all those who helped at Blacktown hospital.

I had my second baby a few months ago and am writing this review to highlight how impactful communication and interaction can be for new parents, especially in those early postpartum days. Even though this was our second child, we were still seeking guidance from the nurses for areas we were unsure about. While many of the staff were excellent and deserve a 5-star rating, one night nurse, in particular, significantly affected our experience in a negative way.

Her approach to teaching breastfeeding techniques and soothing our baby felt abrupt and rough. This, unfortunately, made us feel anxious and uncomfortable during our stay, to the point where we wished to leave as soon as possible. However, due to my surgery, we had to remain, and this added to the anxiety I experienced. It’s unfortunate that one staff member’s poor communication overshadowed an otherwise good experience, as I had a much more positive stay during my first delivery at this hospital.

I would kindly suggest that this nurse work on being more gentle and understanding when interacting with new parents. It’s important to remember that, while this might be routine for the staff, it is a vulnerable time for many families who are navigating a lot of emotions and challenges.

That being said, I’m incredibly grateful for the support and care we received from the rest of the team. One particular nurse stood out as a true guardian angel, whose kindness and compassionate communication truly made a difference. Hats off to the majority of the hardworking and dedicated maternity ward staff who provided exceptional care during our stay. I sincerely hope that improved communication and empathy will help enhance the experience for future families, as this hospital has so much to offer.

Woman’s health clinic doctors - Second time seeing Dr Shaila Sultana and received the same miserable treatment. I was told I was being referred each week for bloods because I “keep complaining of …” which I have not once complained about. It has been mentioned but wasn’t intended to be a problem. She is not a happy person to see during the sensitive times woman go through during the pregnancy journey and I’m glad that I’m strong headed enough to not take her carelessness to heart. Definitely do not recommend this doctor.

My wife recently delivered baby at the Blacktown hospital, kind of support we received through out the process is amazing and memorable.

Thanks is small word for the hospital staff and midwife’s and doctor who took care of our case. Every step of the process was executed perfectly with no scope of errors. We had to stay there for 3 night and we have been looked after really well. Midwife’s are so helpful back to back and followed up to ensure the comfort of Newborn and mom.

There’s always good and bad, we were bit worried based on the reviews but not ones we felt the gap(of-course, out of 8 midwife’s couple were not friendly to interact which is completely understandable, case-case) otherwise to Blacktown Hospital, NSW Health and especially to Midwife’s and Doctors a big and heartful warm thanks from our family.

Keep doing an amazing service ?

I had to admit my 5-month-old baby to the pediatric ward four times, and I can't express enough how grateful I am for the care we received. The staff were consistently supportive, attentive, and genuinely caring. Each interaction made a challenging time much easier for both my baby and me. I truly appreciate the dedication and compassion of everyone in the children's ward. Thank you for your outstanding service!

Very poor experience at Blacktown Hospital. My son was admitted for appendicitis on Friday around 3am. Waited all day and was dismissed at 7pm and told to come back the next day. The doctor asked my son how he managed to jump the queue - he was there for 16 hours - that’s not jumping the queue in emergency! Was told to come back at 7am the next day, it’s 2pm and he’s still in the waiting room and not any closer to having surgery. Absolutely appalled at ER and the doctors at Blacktown hospital. My poor son has been in pain since Friday but they just leave him in the waiting room pumped with morphine. Really this hospital deserves minus stars.

A big thank you to Tiffany from the women's health ward. She was patient and caring and even though there was a language barrier, she took the extra step to make sure my mother-in-law was comfortable recovering from surgery. She would regularly come in and check if everything was ok and was a pleasure company to have, which brightened the day. We thank you to all the nurses that worked so hard day and night to keep the patients well looked after. Much appreciated.
