I first visited Dr Gatehouse eleven months ago after having experienced debilitating pain down my right leg and in the hip for over twelve months. At this initial visit he thoroughly explained everything in the x-rays and ultrasounds and spoke to me about options and timelines for any intervention. I was very apprehensive about having back surgery and was grateful that he allowed me time to come to the conclusion that I really had no option but to have the surgery. He was honest with me throughout the following months as I tried everything to relieve the pain during that time. I had the surgery in March and from my time in recovery (after surgery) until now, I am in awe of, and very thankful for Dr Gatehouse’s skills and abilities. He visited me in hospital each morning, only missing the one day. He is a very quietly spoken man who shows care and compassion for his patients.I happily pass on Dr Gatehouse’s name to all who ask me and tell them he is the best.

Excellent experience !!! I have been struggling with back pain for over 10 years and a large part of my pain management has been Radio frequency Neurotomy which has served me well until now. Spinal Stenosis, disc bulges, collapsing discs, flat back and a facet cyst all proved to much in the end and surgery was my last resort. Dr Gatehouse is well presented kind caring and very informative, he has a straight to the point manner which is appreciated and understandably a necessary trait when trying to help as many pain sufferers as possible. His team are very efficient and made the whole process effortless from booking in, costs, information and responding to any queries my wife and I had. Bed side manner was terrific and always managed to make me feel at ease. My procedure was a L3/4/5 &L5/S1 Lumbar Decompression which I now have great relief from and I'm improving every day. Thank you so much Dr Gatehouse it looks like you have given me my life back !!!

Dr Simon Gatehouse said that my back condition and diagnosis was due to genetics, but failed to inform me that it would never have become so severe and degenerative if l wasn't a nurse in a nursing home for over 20yrs, now l am on a Disability Support Pension and because of his opinion back then, l did not seek compensation for my injury and l am 52yrs old now and am never able to work again in my life?

Had cervical surgery C5/6 in 2021 with Dr Simon Gatehouse , in Brisbane, with a great result.
July this year, 2023, I had a Posterior fusion from L3 to ileum, with same surgeon, Dr Simon Gatehouse. After the initial pain problems post surgery, that were sorted promptly , I have returned to Townsville one week post surgical.
At 3 weeks post op, I am walking averaging 1.5 kms/day.
2 months post surgery I walk 5.5 kilometres per day for x6 days
I religiously complete core strength exercise given by townsville Physio, EVERY day
I cannot recommend Dr Simon Gatehouse highly enough as an extremity gifted spinal surgeon.
I have put up with chronic low back problems for 20 years, with no end in site. However, surgery in July, has certainly checked that I need to exercise more. And keep my weight down.
Best thing I did, was going to I see Simon12/07 2023
I, have now a stronger back stabilisation, that I have ever had
Please note and I am my early 70’s
Travelling south to the best doctor was necessary (Personally ) as I have little faith inTownsville based Spinal surgeon . I have just retired, with minimal back pain.
You owe yourself a second opinion, the Gap fees are very reasonable.
Kenn Winter,

from L3 to the ileum.

I was referred to Dr Simon Gatehouse by a spine specialist here in Noosa Heads (Dr James Cox) and it was the best decision to proceed forward with surgery. I was experiencing 10/10 pain episodes and a root block injection had no impact on my compressed disc.

Dr Gatehouse recommended I proceed to surgery. Immediately after surgery I had no pain, just the expected inflammation that you get from incision. If you have chronic back pain, go to the best of the best. Dr Gatehouse doesn't sugar coat things and is non emotional, just gets the job done providing relief for the patient. The Wesley Hospital is very accommodating and made me feel safe and in good hands.

I have just recently had lower spinal surgery.Dr Gatehouse has overnight revolutionised my life.I have been in severe debilitating back pain also my walking and general impairment from the waist down,I wondered how I would go on the first day of physiotherapy ,well I quite simply stood up and walked with the pain free ease I had enjoyed many years before my surgery. It feels like a miracle has occurred .I thank and applaud Dr Gatehouse for his unquestioned skills and ability to achieve such a great outcome. i’m Like a child with a new toy on Christmas Day. I had my surgery at Wesley hospital and would like to say how good that was,the staff were knowledgeable and caring, and did such a great job.Thankyou one and all for such a better than expected result.

I had severe spondylolisthesis and thought I would spend the rest of my life in pain. It’s been almost 5 years since the surgery and I still have NO back pain. Thank you. Highly recommend.
