The Mater Hospital is a nice small private hospital. During my 3mth Stay for physical rehabilitation I cannot complain.
All the nursing staff were wonderful and professional at all times. If I had any concerns they would answer it in a very timely manner. And the doctor was very good in answering his phone after hours, for any medication request or health issues the nurses may have had.
The physiotherapist were all very professional and seen me twice everyday even on weekends. This helped with my recovery enormously.
The cleaners were in everyday to clean my private room. They did a fantastic job keeping on top of it and addressing any concerns I had about my room.
The food was what to be expected in hospital. I will say I never went hungry as they came several times a day with snacks and coffee.
The hospital is a little old and is starting to show its age. During my time there the maintenance staff were fixing things that needed replacing or were looking old. But in all honesty they are starting to spend money on upgrading the place.
I cannot speak highly enough of all the nurses and staff that looked after me and would recommend this hospital for and physical rehabilitation needs in Bundaberg.

Absolutely appalled with the lack of profession, care and kindness of this facility. The lady’s on the counter are never happy to greet you and make everything seem like it’s a hassle.
One lady in particular in the place, Karen being the name - totally unprofessional, rude and should not be answering phone calls and speaking with customers when she doesn’t know how to treat them with compassion. Word of mouth is everything and I will not be allowing this to go unnoticed

I regret to share my dissatisfactory experience at Mater Private Hospital Bundaberg. Right from the start, I sensed a certain impatience from the admission staff regarding our insurance battle. My disappointment deepened on the procedure day when both parents weren't allowed during admission assessment, pre-surgery, or anesthesia. This was particularly distressing for my 2.5-year-old, who cried for her father as they sedated her.
The overall care on the ward felt lacking, with some staff appearing overwhelmed and, unfortunately, some exhibiting rudeness. Attempting to administer oral paracetamol was distressing as my daughter resisted, and despite my warnings, the staff didn't listen, resulting in a messy situation. Thankfully, we received clearance to go home early evening, allowing us to continue care ourselves using suppositories rather than oral medications.
Returning a week later due to a bleed, the nursing staff seemed even more strained. Another misunderstanding about oral medication led to an unpleasant encounter, and the administration of suppositories lacked empathy, causing pain and distress. This unfortunate incident has left my daughter suddenly fearing the sight of suppositories.
The subsequent care at the public hospital was a marked contrast, emphasising the importance of kind, caring staff, and favourable nurse-to-patient ratios. This experience has left me profoundly disappointed, and I've decided not to consider Mater hospitals in the future. I hope sharing this feedback encourages improvements for others.

I was on holiday at Bargara when I became very sick with COVID. The treatment and attention I received from Bundaberg Base Hospital Emergency Dept was outstanding. I was offered a choice of staying there for a few days or to be transferred to the Mater, as I had top private health insurance. Not knowing anything about the Mater, I said I was happy to be transferred there as the base hospital was short of beds. This was the worst mistake ever. Once I arrived at the Mater I was told that I could not have any pain relief (not even one nurofen) until the doctor saw me sometime the following day and prescribed it. I was placed in a room in an empty ward a long way away from any nursing staff and I spent the night in terrible pain. Only after threatening to walk out the following day and in tears, did the doctor finally answer a text from the nurses to say that I could receive one 200mg nurofen (after asking for many hours). My husband couldn't get in the front door to drop clothes off for me and nobody was answering the phone numbers on the hospital website. I left that afternoon in disgust at the medical treatment by the one and only doctor there who only visited the hospital once a day sometime. It was as if I had been dumped in an aged care facility. The nurses were nice but had no ability or authority to help me. A shocking experience when I was feeling so sick. Don't go there.

I've just had my Dad in the St Joseph's ward for about a week. On the whole the nursing staff were amazing, especially the young and trainee nurses. Unfortunately there were a couple of the older nurses that could really do with a refresher course in compassion and empathy.

This one star review is for the accounts department and management not the staff which are excellent .My mother paid her excess to go in for a procedure on the 12th may to find out on the 24th may after questioning it, to find out she didnt owe it,told on the day would take 3 weeks maxium to refund the amount. After numerous visits and phone calls with no response from accounts money finally refunded on the 15th july with no explanation for the time it took. My question to accounts and management is what sort of people make a 87 year old pensioner wait over 9 weeks to get money back that is rightfully hers and you claim to be a catholic, caring organisation i dont think so i ask myself how many other people get the same treatment and this is why you get a 1 star

Very similar to last review. Paid my excess $250.00 today. Found out few hours later I didn't need to pay. Have been told it will take 6 weeks for a refund, when it was paid instantly in the first place. Sounds like they dont like paying money back.
