A car accident in May 2023 left me with damage to my spine and completely derailed my life. I used medicinal cannabis and Gabapentin/Pregabalin for the pain until late last year, due to side effects and cost of medical cannabis my GP put me back on opiate based pain management and referred me to Dr Pendleton. I was asked to fill out quite extensive medical history paperwork and Dr Pendleton was sent my history including MRI and CT imaging by my GP but he apparently didn't bother really looking at that, complaining that my GP had not put as much detail into the referral as he'd have preferred, which is fine, he showed me and I guess she assumed the history would speak for itself. After trying to relate my situation and relevant history to him he seemed to become impatient and started saying that my situation was too complex and I would be going backwards if he were to become involved with my care. It was a very disappointing experience after waiting for months with the expectation I was going to get better pain management, I don't believe he took the time to actually understand my situation, he kept making assumptions based on what I don't know because his assumptions weren't in my medical history my GP sent or that I filled out that he didn't bother reading anyway. He did agree to bulk bill the consult though, which was fair considering he didn't actually help me in any way.

Following 6 hip dislocations, 2 operations, and 8 months of physiotherapy which aggravated the pain in the affected leg, I was referred to Dr Pendleton for assessment. He listened to my concerns, referred me for an MRI, and diagnosed that the leg pain was related to my lower back rather that the hip. He arranged a procedure at Wesley Hospital involving radio frequency injections into my spine. The results have been miraculous in that the pain and the resulting limp has improved out of sight. Dr Pendleton treated me with respect, listened carefully, offered options, and was amazing throughout the whole experience. His staff likewise were warm and friendly. I highly recommend this practice and this doctor for anyone dealing with ongoing pain. (Dorothy Aldred)

Haven’t been able to walk or stand for nearly 2 years. Under went foot surgery in feb and June. I was told to get abalations done. I was told on the second abalation they’re not burning the nerves. Still can walk and stand and had another abalation yesterday and they stuck the needle so far up my leg I now have ankle pain, Achilles pain to go with my heel pain now. When I speak with the doctor he’s short and cuts me off. Tried telling them about the pinched nerve in my back and was told it’s not.. even before he’s looked at the scans. Getting absolutely no where dealing with them. Procedures seem to be 8 weeks apart because everyone is always on holidays. Scheduled a Telehealth phone call and when they never rang, I rang the reception only to be told the doctor had gone home for the day. But sent me a bill anyway. My experience has been beyond bad. Some of the worst dealings I’ve had so far.

I highly recommend Dr Pendleton !!! This man is God in my eyes, he has been treating me successfully for over 10 years for chronic back pain. Surgeon's weren't willing to operate on my back until recently and pain couldn't be managed by medication. My life seemed grave with no end in sight to pain so the only way to reduce pain was RFN, this man saved my life.

Dr Pendleton has given me back a pain-free back. He shows great interest and respect to his patients. In my case, he went above and beyond in helping with another health matter. Excellent care and great support. Reception staff also very helpful.

Dr Pendleton did an amazing job with my procedure at the Wesley.
I was moving freely and without much pain the same day, and was basically pain free within a couple of days (in the past I’ve been in pain post-procedure for up to 4 weeks!). Im very glad I changed from my previous specialist, and don’t hesitate to recommend Dr Pendleton.

WOULDN’T RECOMMEND

Went and saw Dr Richard at Wesley hospital mid last year.
At this point I had 3 shoulder surgery’s and about to undertake a 4th. My Left knee had been in chronic pain for shy of 3 years, to which 6 specialists of different areas had all reviewed with no definite answer. The pain is so serious I can’t walk up a flight of stairs or even take my dogs out for walks at the ripe age of 26.
Upon seeing Dr Richard he straight out refused to help or even investigate these ongoing pain areas because I wanted to keep trying to stay fit and avoid being obese due to injury. Not once did he actually look at scans or feel the injured areas, I even noted on the medical referral from a sports physician, neurologist and surgeon that he is the last line of specialist advice…..
Following this disappointment it took another 6 months to get in for a second opinion at a different clinic who immediately got me in for nerve surgery on both shoulders and knee, they where baffled I was turned away from him. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone

I have been seeing Dr Richard Pendelton for nearly 10 years. I suffered multiple spinal fractures from a horse accident which resulted in extensive surgery and rehab over 30yrs ago. After exhausting every type of pain management, except for heavy drugs, I was referred to Richard. Since day one I have found him to be a thorough, attentive and a kind mannered Doctor. He has never referred any unnecessary treatments and we have progressed my Radiofrequency Neurotomy (RFN) and my percutaneous zygapophyseal joint denervation treatment in stages over the years as my back continues to degenerate (due to fused bone wearing down over years) and further compression on my lower back nerves. When my procedure was cancelled during the 1st Covid lockdown, he went out of his way to help me manage my pain with medication knowing I didn't want to take it forever. His in room nurse, Megan, is wonderful and knowledgeable in post procedure follow ups (as with life not everything goes according to plan as I found out for the 1st time in 10yrs when we targeted a few new nerves for the first time at my last procedure...nerves have a mind of their own and sometimes things take longer or even a 2nd treatment)but she will go out of her way to check in with both you and Richard to ensure your recovery is managed.
His reception staff have never been anything but courteous and nice.
In a nut shell, I moved to the Sunshine Coast from Brisbane 3 yrs ago and still travel to Brisbane for my procedures. Pre and Post Op consults are done via phone. If it wasn't for Richard I would not be walking today. I am 50 and was told I would be in a wheelchair by 40, he has given me the ability to live a fairly normal life where I can go to the gym , beach and carry out daily activities with the use of occasional strong medication.
