Bill for the exact same procedure went up 50% overnight to $400. N they suddenly say it’s not covered by private health. I’ve had the same back operation three times . The surgeon, hospital and anaesthesist don’t charge a gap payment. Now , overnight Qld X-Ray charge a gap payment of $400 and told me it’s because the imaging machine is extremely expensive and so is maintenance on it . They don’t own the machine ! The hospital does and they do the mainline on it . They blatantly lied . Basically, in my procedure, the radiologist presses a button when my surgeon says to . My procedure took 18 minutes. Qld x-ray pay the radiologist under $45 an hour yet charge $1200 an hour … WITH ZERO OTHER EXPENSES. My doctor is perusing a formal complaint, Medibank states Qld X-Rays conduct as opportunistic price gouging and St Andrews Hospital was not aware but was appalled at their bill they sent me . My procedure was booked for many months. At no time did Qld X-Ray contact me to say I’d suddenly get an exorbitant bill after it or disclose an amount . They just hit with it and demand payment within 5 days . My doctor informed my yesterday I’m the seventh person this week to complain to him about this “overnight huge gap payment “
