The staff i know are great, and in my opinion they make the business, gyms are everywhere really but when your a local you appreciate that local touch.
Disappointed in the 9pm close for the sauna, doesn't matter if it's temporary and if the owner is waiting to count the numbers etc. This week we had an instance where there were 16people actually in the sauna and about 18 in the pool waiting to get in. Sauna is really important to a large group of long term locals.
Other than that, facility is great, would give the extra 2 stars if the sauna closed at 10.

If there was a plus to add to the 5 star I would. As a longstanding member of AJ's and now Strand Fitness I am so impressed with the upgrades. Over the years the equipment was tired and a lot of the maintenance was being neglected. I was sceptical at first however since day one of takeover by Strand Fitness they have gone to work on the promised upgrades and have not stopped. It is looking so good as final touches are being made. I love going and have never loved my fitness journey more. So much to do! I swear staff sometimes think I've secretly moved in. Thank you Strand Fitness team. 🫶

Shanga went above and beyond to answer all my questions and provide information about the gym's facilities and classes. She took the time to ensure I felt comfortable and guided me through the membership options without any pressure. It’s rare to find someone so dedicated to customer service, and her enthusiasm for the gym is contagious.

Overall, my experience was fantastic, and it’s all thanks to Shanga’s exceptional customer service. I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a supportive and friendly environment.

This gym has it all !
Lots and lots of space on the gym floor, every weight + you never have to wait, dedicated deadlift area, dedicated boxing room- love it. And we top it off with a sauna after the workout. Friendly staff and members make it very easy-going for us noobs. Best gym I’ve been to.

I've been a member of this gym for years and have always appreciated the friendly and helpful staff, as well as the welcoming environment that feels like a second home. The recent renovations by the new management have further improved the gym, and it's great to see their dedication to making it a better place for all of us.
However, I'm finding it challenging to adjust to the new hours, especially with the earlier closing times on weekend nights. These changes have made it difficult for me to attend as frequently as I'd like. I truly value my membership here and the community we've built, so I kindly ask the management to reconsider extending the hours back to 10 PM on weeknights and 8 PM on weekends to better fit our schedules."

Since the business has been sold, it is not in the same atmosphere. As a paying member of the gym, I have noticed parents don't supervise their children while at the gym. The children took over the indoor and then the outdoor pool, and the concept of a quiet conversation is unheard of. Men in the women's bathroom and they are located downstairs. There are no upstairs bathrooms. Very hard for people with an injury or disability. I was trying to decide if I wanted to renew my membership as the water aerobics is fantastic. The new owners quickly made my mind up with what they were doing to the place that I would not be renewing. We are all entitled to have an opinion as we pay $$ for our membership.
But when I received a text message saying that my 12-month contract was finished and that I should come in to renew it. I did not give it much thought.
What you don't get informed about is that you that you must fill out a form in person, giving them four weeks' notice to stop the membership. Otherwise, they will continue to take payments from your account.
I specifically asked about this when I joined and was told NO. Otherwise, I would have filled it out then.
Read the fine print in the contract.
So a 12-month contract could be endless.

Hey guys great gym, everyone is pleased with what's happening now with strand fitness. I however agree with ruby. There's alot of members who are nurses, truck drivers etc that have benefited from the later closes of the sauna for many years, and would appreciate if this could be kept in consideration as the open and closing hours get put into their final place.
