Specialist eye doctors -ophthalmologists. An appointment for macular degeneration treatment will typically take 2 hours - waiting for 20 minutes, then a laser eye exam by an assistant (20 mins), a wait of 20 mins (for the eye exam results to be checked by the eye doctor), insertion of anaesthetic eye drops by the eye doctor - then a wait of 15 mins - followed by an eye injection of the treatment drug (30 mins). Note - if you are having this treatment, DO NOT DRIVE to this surgery. As driving home carries a high risk of a serious accident on your way home - as the anaesthetic eye drops temporarily affect your ability to judge the distance and speed of on-coming traffic, though you won’t know it (as I found out, after a 90 km/hr t-bone impact on my car last year, when I drove home to Palmerston last year and tried to cross the Stuart Highway into Tivendale Road, as my vision seemed okay and I had no pain. My XTrail car was written-off and I spent 4 days in hospital with seatbelt injuries. Fortunately the other driver was in-injured). Instead, get your partner or a friend to take there, or get a taxi there. If you live in Palmerston, I’ve since found the free govt-funded Palmerston to Royal Darwin Hospital Shuttle service. Just call the Darwin bus service - CDC Darwin - the day before (by 3 pm) to make your free booking. They’ll then send a minibus the next day, which will pick you up at 8:30, then collect you at 1:15 for the trip home. The bus calls at Palmerston Hospital, Darwin Private Hospital and NT Eye Specialists too, on the trip to RDH and the Alan Walker Cancer Clinic. (Kym aged 74, in Palmerston).

My husband had to come here through work for a standard eye exam otherwise we would not have chosen this business. The reviews are correct in regards to waiting times…waited over an hour just to get in for the first part, all up waited approx 2 hours. The specialist said two words, zero people skills. Tried to read the report afterwards but couldn’t decipher his writing. Assuming everything is ok 🤦‍♀️ He also answered his mobile a few times which was extremely unprofessional. Compared to my own recent appt elsewhere, this was terrible customer service! Stop cramming people in and making them wait!! Do not recommend.

Terribly managed establishment. They gave me an appointment for a doctor that wasn’t even on the referral for my 2 year old child. The doctor wasn’t even child specialist and they did not communicate this at all. Gave appointment at 4 pm but when we went there told us it was 4:30.

If you're a fan of sitting in a waiting room for a few hours watching british games shows, then this is the place for you. If you're into service and eye health, somewhere more appropriate would be better.

Absolutely frustrating appointment. Doctor was 30mins late, didn't apologise, stolled in and sounded and looked like he didn't want to be there. Pretty much paid $230 , to waste 1 hour and to be told nothing . I wouldn't recommend.

Got to appointment early and then had to sit and wait for hour and half. Badly run. Always seem to be running late. People don't have the time to wait if taken time off from their work.
