I have had two procedures with Dr Kariappa over the past few years. From my very first introduction I found him very professional, polite and he presented genuinely interested in my welfare and the procedure I was about to undertake. He made me relax with his down to earth attitude and humour. His whole Theatre team were excellent! I appreciated the care shown by all.

I have been seeing Dr Kariappa for the past ten years and have always found him to be a caring and informative surgeon.
This last surgery however was a completely different story.
I was admitted under a Dr Zhu whom I did not meet until entering theatre. I told her that I usually get another procedure done at the same time as my colonoscopy.
I was met with “Why would I do that, I’m not doing that” in quite an annoyed tone.
I replied “no problem, that’s fine don’t worry” as to not create any more stress just before surgery.
Upon returning from surgery we had to get going home as I live about 140km from the hospital but was told the surgeon would call me that afternoon.
Here I am over a month later with still no call and left not even knowing what happened or what was performed during my surgery.
Please do yourself a favour and find another surgeon. I have huge respect for Dr Kariappa but it would seem he is not running the show anymore.

Very disappointing this second round. It seems to me that Covid has really affected our lives and no one is the same. After seeing Dr Karappa it took them over 1 month to send me out a quote for my procedure. Then finally I decided to go ahead with it and almost 3 months later I still haven’t received any paperwork for the admission and every time I call them they come up with different excuses. I hope to god that whatever I have isn’t serious cause I’ve just wasted 3 months waiting on nothing

I can not thank Dr Sanjay Kariappa enough for fixing my problem that had made my life living hell for the past few years. Thanks to his excellent surgical skills, I had a successful operation and a speedy recovery after. Now it has only been five weeks after the surgery and I've already got my normal life back! People tend to put up with the "rear problems" for years as sometimes they are not life threatening or maybe feel embarrassed about. What I want to tell you is that you shouldn't wait until the "small problem" becomes "big problem" and you definitely shouldn't have to suffer. Come and consult Dr Kariappa, I'm glad that I did!

Dr Sanjay Kariappa has proven to be an excellent colorectal surgeon for me over the past two years. He has gone to extraordinary lengths to help preserve my quality of life despite the stubbornness of my condition and always responds promptly when contacted. He has on several occasions assisted me outside of office hours over the phone with issues such as running out of medication and alarming complications.

My only gripe is that he is very popular and works extremely long hours when in surgery; this means it's not always possible to see him in his rooms as quickly as might be desired. This cannot be helped, and does not affect my opinion of him professionally.

It's safe to say my experiences in the past few years would have been much, much worse without Dr Sanjay Kariappa's dedication and expertise.

edit: it's been five years now. I've been diagnosed with very complex Crohn's. Dr Kariappa continues to be a lifeline for a situation many other CR surgeons would have just dealt with far more decisively and permanently regardless of patient quality of life. I count my blessings.
