One of the specialists assessed my family member after melanoma in their eye and ear.

My family member went back for several years for a checkup. The specialist only did a visual check of the area, and did not undertake any scans. Paid full fee for a 10-15 minute ‘visual’ look at the areas with melanoma… ‘no issues’.

Several years later my family member has stage 4 melanoma cancer - it has spread throughout the body from the eye or ear, in which a ‘visual’ assessment was undertaken, no scans or anything.

It’s hard to fathom why a simple scan wasn’t undertaken or recommended during the yearly consultations. Could have prevented this from occurring.

My husband saw Dr Coker who was exceptionally kind, considerate and thorough. He put many of our worries at ease. My husband had already been diagnosed with melanoma but Dr Coker was the only doctor to offer him an additional full mole check and take the time to really explain things. We would not hesitate to recommend Dr Coker to friends and family. He is an absolute credit to the Melanoma Institute.

Congratulations on your speech today at the National Press Club. Powerful!
I had no idea that the Slip Slop Campaign hasn’t been active since 2004! Absolutely agree there should be more funding to support research for better and more personalised treatments for Melanoma. I have personally experienced the loss of my who father died within 9 months of his diagnosis at age 54. Looking forward to the federal government getting behind your recommendations!

Georgina and her team have literally saved my life. I was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma 5 years ago - the usual expected prognosis at that time was about 2 years. By taking part in their clinical trials, and being under their constant and careful monitoring, I have not only survived, but have been NED for more than a year 🙂

Georgina and her team have always taken the necessary time to make sure they have the full story about my symptoms. Moreover, they are connected with the best specialists in other fields, so that when I've needed urgent lifesaving operations, they've been able to engage the best surgeons in the field to operate almost immediately. I also think that Georgina's well deserved reputation attracts the best oncology registrars and nurses in the field.

Truly grateful that I was referred to MIA when first diagnosed.

Wouldn't be around if it wasn't for Professor Long and her team. Always believed I had the best Oncologist in the world. Georgina has just been independently assessed as the second best in the world. Global ascendency as the best in the world is only a matter of time. The time she has added to my life expectancy is priceless.

Not really impressed by our consult today at all. While I appreciate being able to see Georgina and her team, I felt it to be a waste of time. Basically were charged to be told what we knew and nothing else could be done. If you had all of my fathers records then why see us ? I felt it to be unprofessional to say how long you think he will be alive for. Way to give people hope for $500!

I really don't understand why I just got charged $250 for the Total Body Photography (and they told me after there are no Medicare/health fund rebates!). They spent 10 minutes taking photos of my whole body, my understanding was that a specialist would be comparing these to photos they took 6 years ago ( at much lower cost ). Turns out I'm supposed to compare the images myself. May as well have just gotten my wife to, or taken the photos myself. It's pretty egregious and I'll be following up with them. Profoundly disillusioning to be treated like a cash cow.
