Always late, even if you’re first up in the morning. I don’t know how, but they’re consistent. Staff are friendly and proficient, but block out 2 hours for a 20 min consult, just in case…

Newcastle General Practice, it’s GP’s, nurses & staff are absolutely wonderful.
Professionalism, excellent administration and most importantly high level healthcare.

Dr. Tonkin is exceptional beyond words, helping me with a multitude of complex issues for many years. He takes whatever time is required to completely understand the reason for the visit, ensuring too that I understand what is going on and any implications. He is very empathetic and provides such comprehensive medical care.

Dr Williams & Dr Miller are also top class GP’s, continuing the excellent care when I am unable to see Dr Tonkin. Hearing feedback from several friends & family who attend the practice, Dr’s Williamson, Eve & Mather are all wonderful too.

I would respectfully advise taking little regard of the few lower feedback scores. From extensive personal experience, the interactions described with those particular Dr’s are completely incongruent with their character.

I highly recommend Newcastle General Practice.

Absolutely terrible attitudes at this surgery with all 3 of the male drs. Williams kept saying the pain will get better when my mental health improves, he never listened when I tried to tell him my mental health was caused from my pain.
Williams found I had a staircase fracture at my S1/L5, he didn’t bother to look into why or if I’d had anymore injuries, when I found a real Dr, she ran appropriate scans and found I also had a stress fracture in my sacrum, Femoroacetabular impingement, ischiofemoral impingement and peritendonitis as well as multiple muscle and ligament tares.
So there’s the cause of my pain which I’m now being treated for with hydrotherapy, physiotherapy and norgesic (so I can do my exercises) until I get the surgery I need to be pain free and stable.
I’m also on anti anxiety tablets twice a day, these Drs at Newcastle general practice gave me further PTSD symptoms because of their judgy and arrogant personalities, reminded me of the bullies in high school.
Upon reporting my issues to the head dr and manager of this practice, Tonkin, he leaned back very smug like and asked if I was looking for drugs!! In a very sarcastic manner… I was just reporting my issues I’d had with your employee before I reported it to the HCCC.

My experience with Dr Dean Miller was unpleasant, passive aggressive and upsetting.

I told him during our initial face to face consultation that I didn’t feel I was being heard, to which I received a cold look and he said something facetiously along the lines of “ok, and what do you want me to do about that?”

I was charged $92 and left feeling unhappy.

Then I was charged $92 for a ‘necessary’ second appointment — a 10-minute phone call — to receive information which the pharmacist was happy to provide me free of charge, and to get a script texted to me for what we’d discussed in the first appointment.

The receptionist said that this length of consult was ‘standard’ and I should have been told about this when I became a patient.

Dean Miller was over an hour late for the first consultation and half an hour late for the phone call and entirely unapologetic.

I requested a reconsideration for the second fee on the phone due to it being 10 minutes long, not achieving much and not being informed re: costs. The receptionist passed on the request but Dean Miller refused to alter the cost.

He proceeded to have the receptionist tell me that “if I was going to be upset after every consultation,” he didn’t think that he could “provide me care” and instead of amending his actions and apologising, I was told to find another clinic.

Not sure why this emotionally stunted person is a doctor.

Happily took my money for a premedical that was not completed. Had to go elsewhere to do it again.
Took two sessions, it was $210 in expenses. In the first appointment the Dr was not even prepared to do the assessment.
Look elsewhere for a doctor in Newcastle if you require a premedical assessment. Lovely doctors and staff otherwise.
