I recently had an accident and ended up at emergency. The staff were fantastic - nobody wants to go to hospital. Waited a few hours, what do expect, it’s busy and you have to be prepared for this. I had triage, x rays and consultations. It’s not going to be 5 minutes. I see complaints about waiting times. It’s never going to be any different, ever anywhere. Thank you to all the staff there.

I had an unpleasant investigation done in the imaging/radiology department of Wollongong Hospital yesterday. I have to say that all the staff I encountered, starting right from the receptionist, were just amazing! I particularly want to acknowledge Jonathan, Kim, Megan and Emily. These people all helped to put me at ease and made the procedure so much better for me than anticipated. Thank you all so much!

I attended Wollongong Hospital through the Emergency Department, at the request of my GP.
From the moment I walked into the Emergency I was taken care of.
Just a short time till I seen a treatment nurse and was looked after with such care and diligence.
Once I was taken to the Renal ward. The care was 1st class.
I was amazed at the careful and constant care by very busy nursing, and Dr staff.
How hard these people work. Thank you, One and all.
After 7 days I went home full of admiration for each individual who made my stay bearable.
It is obvious Wollongong Hospital is under huge pressure yet, the staff, turn up and care for the community. A happy patient.

Found myself (unfortunately!) in the hospital yet how fortunate I was that it was Wollongong Hospital. From my beginnings in the ER to my transfer to the cardiac wing, I was treated with utmost skill, professionalism, and care. I am not exaggerating when I say every single employee I came into contact with was exceptional! From the nurses (Rebecca, Bek, Daniel, Mafdy, Soka, the kind night nurse) to the food staff to the cleaning staff to the amazing doctors (Dr Tan and Dr Jamie), I was treated amazingly and taken such good care of. Highest of kudos to a top notch medical establishment

I have trauma from my recent emergency dept experience here with my daughter. Absolutely awful. Have been okay in the past but I’ve noticed a gradual decline in care

Important to note that I do not blame the staff. They are severely understaffed and overworked but we waited for almost 5 hours with a toddler repeatedly vomiting. Not once was the (public waiting area!) area cleaned even after my husband notified them of the vomit.

When we finally made it into the ward we were given the usual fluid challenge, swab etc. Doc on shift must have went home but left without following up or checking in again. New doc didn’t come introduce themselves or follow up either. My daughter had no fluids in her because she just kept throwing up everything she drank so we spent 3 hours trying to get urine from her with not one visit from anyone to ask how we were going. This is even when my daughter was screaming hysterically with each vomit. It took me walking out of the room at 3am, my husband and I clearly at our wits end, asking loudly in the public space if anyone was going to come check on her at any point. They then said they could do a catheter which I realistically think should have been offered to us much earlier.

I feel like we could have moved into the hospital that night and no one would even have known we were there.

If I need a hospital in the Illawarra, the Wollongong Hospital is the best.
Staff are incredible, you can really feel a passion for care.
I have been though ED, surgery with overnight stay, day surgery and as a visitor, and I have never had a bad experience.
The staff are definitely under the pump, but if you give them the respect they deserve (and by god do these people deserve your respect) they can do their job, and they do it really really well.
The care is A++ and I despite not wanting to visit a hospital again, if I have to, Wollongong Hospital is my first choice.

My wife and I are so impressed with the ED staff , nurses, day surgery teams.
We were treated with the upmost care and all involved in my treatment were extremely happy to help and were very kind. Much appreciated.

Hi ya’ll , over the past 2 years , I’ve unfortunately (referring to my medical condition not the hospital ) had to be admitted & medically treated for 3 seperate 6 week blocks , initially starting at Wollongong hospital then eventually moving to Shellharbour hospital . I have got to admit we are so damn lucky in the this country when it comes to public health emergencies. I found all of Wollongong hospitals services & interventions very professional, prompt and necessary . The doctors were also wonderful .. though I found that my main treating doctor changed about 3 times which I was puzzled about. So .. If I really had to nit pick and find something to complain about .. it was when my husband came into visit me and a hospital cleaning lady happened to be also there at the time . Once my hubby had left and when I saw that same cleaning lady again she asked me a multitude of questions about my hubby. For example “ who was that man that was here yesterday with you” “where does he live”and “what job does he have these days?” I was kinda flabbergasted as my hubby was featured in the media a few years back which has given him much anxiety and effected him badly .as an ex nurse myself I’m very aware of the importance of patient confidentiality , for some reason that patient confidentiality felt like it would be passed on as juicy gossip to her friends & family . My apologies for presuming such things but that is how it felt. Especially as I know how the media and its often very biased one sided story has effected his mental health.

So I do thank Wollongong hospital for all that they have done for me but please could you Re-iterate or re-clarify to your staff the importance of patient confidentiality , please .
